Keshavan Maslak: C or D; S/D; RFI

Back when I used to get more excited by the sound of any free jazz (I'm not implying my taste has progressed, just that maybe my attraction to free jazz didn't actually go very deep), I remember hearing a snippet of something from Keshavan Maslak on an announcement about an upcoming performance. It was very striking and made a lasting impression. Oddly, I don't think I can remember hearing anything else by him.

What are your opinions on Maslak? What's the story again (I guess I could just go to allmusic): he gave up free jazz as being too alienating to most listeners, but then came back to it in some form? Or he just gave it up? What is the "Kenny Dollars" concept?

His name is superb, and I would like to be able to like someone named Keshavan Maslak, but I'm afraid I will have to like the music as well.

So, Keshavan Maslak, then.

Blaster Master is a great album (I haven't listened to it in a few years, so I'm going by memory). Really excellent free jazz + sophomoric humor = a very good record. Song titles include "Jizz and Cocktails" and "Judy Jizzbo".

He was Kenny Millions, not Kenny Dollars. He had a band called "Loved by Millions" -- also funny (more "pop" than his Keshavan Maslak stuff).

If you're interesed, you should pick something up; I doubt you'll be disappointed.

one year passes...
how did i end up with a keshavan maslak album??? i don't think i've ever played it. i don't remember buying it.

maybe i should play it.

it sez on the back: "all music composed and performed on an apple macintosh plus computer with mark of the unicorn performer software"

so, i'm guessing it isn't free-jazz.
