I know someone else did a thread similar, but having resigned this morning (and being very happy about it) I am now being roundly ignored by everybody in the office. I only have to work a week's notice, but a whole week of being ignored for eight hours a day! For an attention seeker like me this is a crisis and I need songs to help me through it...

"Take this Job & Shove It", of course.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 12 December 2003 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

crappy colleagues, kate. you should be happy that you found something else (or did you?).
anyway:
'Freedom '90' by George Michael goes without saying.
'Fly Away' by Leonard Kravitz could also be an option.
Oh, and remember Anticon rapper Sole's words: "Jobs ain't nothing but free pens and long distance calls".

Congratulations,

Jay Kid (Jay K), Friday, 12 December 2003 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"N.O.J.O.B." by Baobab. It's and old school rap song, one of the best anti-job anthems evah.

and yes, I've a new job at the university for more money. Hopefully leaving the insurance domain for good!

Frankly Mr. Shankly by The Smiths remains the ultimate quitting your job song. "It pays my way but it corrodes my soul" etc. etc.

"Hey Rusty", Lloyd Cole and the Commotions: "...I walked out of that
job, you should've seen their faces..."

Second the "Frankly, Mr. Shankly" song recommendation.

How about "Smithers-Jones" by the Jam? More about *getting* fired,
then quitting, but it described the rat race well.

"Sick Day" by Fountains of Wayne is another good one for not missing
the job.
