Since it's almost impossible to hear all their songs, what would you rate as their best tracks - no NERD

I've already placed some obvious tracks

1) ODB - Gotcha Money
2) Kelis - Milkshake
3) Kelis - Caught Out There
4) Noreaga- Super Thug

Also: thoughts on track listing - chronological, flow etc.

Barima (Barima), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

good ones I'm not totally sick of:

Beanie Man f/ Sean Paul and Lady Saw - "Bossman"
Justin Timberlake - "I'm Lovin' It"
Baby f/ Clipse - "What Happened To That Boy?"
Usher - "U Don't Have To Call"
Busta Rhymes - "Light Your Ass On Fire"
Ray J - "Wait A Minute"
Jay-Z - "Allure"

"Got Your Money" is their most overrated track ever (on ILM at least).

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 12 December 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Being the flagrant rockist that I am, I have to go with "Rockstar" (am I getting the title right?) The one with the booming chorus of "ALMOST OVER NOW!" I have to go get that!

(Notice sudden plunge in N.E.R.D's hepcat cache now that Killing Joke fans are expressing interest)

Didn't Timbaland produce "Snoop Dogg"? Or was there another one? I don't have his most recent album.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 13 December 2003 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Saturday, 13 December 2003 04:27 (twenty-two years ago)

The one I'm thinking of had a chorus of (surprise surprise) "Snooop Doooog" and the video clip was set in a party inside a shoe.

Southern hospitality is perhaps my favorite rap single of all time

Sonny A. (Keiko), Saturday, 13 December 2003 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Roscoe p. coldchain - Hot

is the best track they have *ever* done. (but perhaps is just the MCing that makes it work so well.

Savin All My Love 4 u (Savin 4ll my (heart) 4u), Sunday, 14 December 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Most of these, but also:

Fabolous-"Young'n"

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Sunday, 14 December 2003 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

the self-titled Snoop Dogg song to which Sterling and Tim refer to above is definitely Timbaland, he was in the video and everything.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 14 December 2003 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

billstevejim, Friday, 19 December 2003 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
No NERD rule was included because I already have that album and it needs no compiling, same with The Clones. I was looking for spreadout one offs, or songs from inconsistent entirely neptune produced albums.

Jedmond, Wednesday, 14 January 2004 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)

the self-titled Snoop Dogg song to which Sterling and Tim refer to above is definitely Timbaland, he was in the video and everything.

hold on, if you're talking about the one from the last album, it is the neptunes!!!! no doubt!!! it is NOT timbaland.

'Clones': inconsistent entirely neptune produced album, if there ever was one. (that is, these to faux-punk tracks aren't even produced by the 'tunes).

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean, you can even hear that it's a neptunes track, timba's stuff is much more organic and subtle.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Case in point: Lil Kim - 'The Jump Off'.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Jay, you're talking about "From The Chuuuch To Da Palace", which was on Snoop's last album, we're talking about the song "Snoop Dogg" which was from a previous album.

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 15 January 2004 04:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah. Sorry. It's because it goes "Snoop Dooooooogg" all the time. Don't mind me.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Thursday, 15 January 2004 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Busta Rhymes' "Light Your Ass On Fire" has gone the longest without me getting over it. In fact, I picture it being like "Rosa Parks" and "Scenario" and any other number of hip-hop songs that I just don't seem to get tired of.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Thursday, 15 January 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

say WHAT? thats interesting - to me, it's been the dullness from day 1. musical taste is a marvelous thing.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Thursday, 15 January 2004 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Or a horrible thing. ;)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Thursday, 15 January 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

No Doubt - "Hella Good"

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 15 January 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

punjabi MC feat. Jay-Z ('beware') was great.

paulhw (paulhw), Thursday, 15 January 2004 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

eleven months pass...
Favortie Neptunes doing Pop - (a.k.a the guilty pleasures list)

Snoop Dogg - "Drop It Like It's Hot"
Usher - "U Don't Have To Call"
Justin T - "Rock Your Body"
Ludacris - "Southern Hospitality"
Kelis - "Milkshake"
Babyface - "There she goes"
Britney Spears - "I'm a Slave for You"
Busta and P Diddy - "Pass the Courvosier-pt 2"
Jay-z - "Change Clothes"
No Doubt - "Hella Good"
N.O.R.E - "Superthug (what what)"
Philly's Most Wanted - "Cross the Border"
*NSYNC - "Girlfriend"
Nelly - "Hot In Herre"
Mase - *"Looking At Me" (from Harlem World)

NERD - "Lapdance"
NERD - "Jump"

Ok, I just wanted to clear up the whole "Snoop Dogg" thing, if it hasn't already been cleared up. The track that he did 2 years ago that has the choruses: "S-n double o-p d-o double jizzie" and "Snooop Dogg" was produced by Timbaland, and like the dude - Tim Finney, said, it's the video where he is in a big shoe, and Timbaland is in a hot tub with hot girls. Now there is another "Snoop Dogg" song that came out either this
year, or last that was prodcued by the Neptunes, but that was called from the "Church to the Palace". Pharrell does say "Snoop Dogg" in the chorus, so that makes it confusing. To make it even more confusing we could enclude that "what's my name" track from back in the day, so there
is like 3 different "Snoop Dogg" tracks. Very redundant, I know.

I love "Cross The Border" so much. It's the best generic Neptunes track ever, maybe? Mind you, supa stiff competition from "Pass The Courvoisier Pt 2", although the Diddy/Busta interplay and Pharrell chorus make that one seem a bit more distinctive,

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 31 December 2004 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i was gonna complain that no-one ever mentions "nigga please" with its amazing trampoline bass, but then i looked and tim did, good on him!

also, i will rep for gwen's "hollaback girl" until i decide otherwise.

m. (mitchlnw), Friday, 31 December 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Mitch I love "Nigga Please"! I thought I was the only one!

I've now heard "Hollaback Girl" and it is ridiculous. At the moment that's likely to become "ridiculously great" but I'm yet to totally rule out "ridculously awful". The bananas bit is good for dancing with friends while drunk though.
