Is this 2003's best-kept secret? Or have I not been roaming ILM's halls frequently enough? That is, might someone tell me more about The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back?

There have been a couple stray comments, yes.

No need for details. Buy it.

i have not heard the first one, but this is nice. like a lot of "microwhatever" mixes if you tune your ear out slightly it just sorta chugs by, anonymously but beautifully.

(also it opens with one of my favoite songs ever, so extra points for mr. bell.)

Are all of the songs on this one sung as if they're one side of a telephone conversation?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 12 December 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I predict that his next album will be called Behind the Button-Down Mind of Daniel Bell.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 12 December 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Well played, Scatman.

Bob Newhart to thread!

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 12 December 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

this is a good one. Tried throwing it out there a couple of months ago on the board but didn't get very many bites.

the Drug Punks track is pretty cool too!

I liked the Button Down Mind of Dan Bell a lot better. I am just tired of the whole computer aesthetic. There is nothing on the second one that even comes close to Feelin' Sad by Nick Holder on the first one.

It is a solid mix tho, so if you are into microhouse it will probably treat you all right.

Nihilist Pop Star (mjt), Friday, 12 December 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
so ... why "the button-down mind"?

vahid (vahid), Friday, 18 March 2005 04:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't that a Bob Newhart thing, and wasn't that the title of one of his albums?

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 18 March 2005 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

oh wow amg gives that b newhart album 5/5 - i will slsk it immediately. i guess bell thinks he is cleancut but subversive? that's boring (just because i and all my friends do, too)

vahid (vahid), Friday, 18 March 2005 05:26 (twenty-one years ago)

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 18 March 2005 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, yes, whoever wrote those reviews on the Newhart albums must have liked Newhart or something.

Still waiting for Behind the Button-Down Mind of Daniel Bell. I wanna see Daniel Bell Faces Daniel Bell Faces Daniel Bell.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 18 March 2005 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Sean, we know you wrote the review but did you also give it the stars?

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 18 March 2005 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I think so! If they were already there before I did the review, it would have ended up the same either way, though.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 18 March 2005 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Ambrose, are you going to go to this on May Day Sunday?

http://www.bleep43.com/

Tickets selling fast, not surprising considering the size of the venue!

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 18 March 2005 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 18 March 2005 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)
