Inspired by the C/D of Chisel, and a drunk next door singing Khe Sanh.

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 15 December 2003 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Most of me wants to say DUD. But "The Flame Trees" is strangely moving. Sort of.

"His War Is Over" is easily the worst headline EVER. Grrrah.

RIP.

Marquis Cha Cha Du Ri (King Boy Pato), Monday, 17 January 2011 07:59 (fifteen years ago)

RIP

have 'when the war is over' playing in his honour.

but yeah, that's a bummer of a headline...

charlie h, Monday, 17 January 2011 10:31 (fifteen years ago)

Fact: "Forever Now" is easily the best ever Chisels song.

Marquis Cha Cha Du Ri (King Boy Pato), Monday, 17 January 2011 10:38 (fifteen years ago)

(Unfortunately, "War" was ruined by Cosima and if you require any further information on that once future star, may I point you in the direction of estela.)

three years pass...

baaaarnsey had a pretty remarkable voice before he destroyed it. great range and subtlety on 'flame trees', 'standing on the outside' etc.

imagine if they were a current beat combo. 'ita' would probably be about mia freedman instead.

'breakfast at sweethearts' would be set at that place in erko that sells nutella doughnut milkshakes

I've heard AC/DC (obviously), and Rose Tattoo, Coloured Balls and Buffalo, but I've never heard these guys. Should I just start with the debut?

the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Monday, 5 October 2015 12:12 (ten years ago)

despite their rep they're not really like the angels / acca dacca / tatts axis, they get lumped in due to playing the same venues (suburban beer barns) and jimmy barnes' pisshead stage antics. they hit that vibe at times ('goodbye astrid', rising son') but much of it is less driving and riffy. really they're an excellent singles band, I'd say just get a best-of.

expert slurpers (haitch), Monday, 5 October 2015 13:35 (ten years ago)

it's Walker's writing that sets them apart, to me they have a vague almost-Springsteen quality to them ie mythology of working class characters/life/longing for escape etc

(i could be wrong, i just thought of it & it sounded good lol)

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 5 October 2015 18:41 (ten years ago)
