Festive Postpunk

This is doomed, but...

Doing a post-punk/electro/no-wave/indie night at a bar in Birmingham next Sunday (we play n. soul and krautrock and pop n'stuff as well but that's the main bulk). We have wilfully overstated the extent to which it will be Christmas themed. I'd like to make a few token gestures but there's only so much that seems possible within our remit (we don't want to play Slade, oddly). I'll probably play 'Thank God It's Not Christmas' by Sparks and 'No Xmas For John Quays' by the Fall, but I'm struggling a bit for anything else.

Suggestions (it doesn't matter how ridiculously tenuous the Xmas theme is; it'd probably be funnier)?

crepuscule comps are a goldmine

maybe you should check out those trash comps wherein shit bands like the flaming lips never miss a chance to compose/cover a "cute/quirky" x-mas tune.

sorry that was dumb

adam michel (adam michel), Monday, 15 December 2003 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

check out 1981's 'ghosts of christmas past (chanton noel)' on crepuscule for some other good ones

the original LP came with 6 christmas cards!

scott seward, Monday, 15 December 2003 03:30 (twenty-two years ago)

The Wedding Present covering "Stepping Into Christmas." Also, I heard a song by the Waitresses the other day that had an xmas theme, but I can't remember what it was called.

hstencil, Monday, 15 December 2003 03:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i love that song.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 December 2003 03:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean, it's indefensible and kinda annoying but i still love it.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 December 2003 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

The Wedding Present song? or the Waitresses one? Wish I could remember the title of the latter!

hstencil, Monday, 15 December 2003 03:55 (twenty-two years ago)

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 15 December 2003 03:56 (twenty-two years ago)
