A mood record without question, but might it have been 20 years ahead of its time?

Not with that cover it wasn't.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

not that great a record, I tried...

imagine my surprise when they followed it with 2 or 3 great E.P.s and one of the best albums of the 1980's: the awesome Standing Up Straight !

I didn't really expect a groundswell of agreement, so I'll just slip back into my secret lair and try pulling another obscure proclamation out of my ass...

I'd say their previous band Rema Rema was that far ahead of its time... or at least a decade ahead of its time.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

to be honest, i havent heard wolfgang press since college oh so many decades a go. i can barely remember what they sound like beyond a vague sense of Mute-ness.

or 4AD-ness... although at one point, both labels seemed kinda intertwined with the same artists.

Well, that first record doesn't really sound like any Wolfgang Press that followed it. Cold, slinky bass a la Shriekback, distant and almost sampled sounding drums, and some mumbled spoken phrases over the music. It's kind of "out there" for '83, but sounds really contemporary for '03.

Yay, Paul! I just started listening to that again. I like the "Big Sex" and "Kansas" ep's.

five years pass...

I am listening to this record. It's a shame they couldn't afford any instruments other than a bass guitar.

They get points for trying.....

Reminds me more of Tones on Tail than anything.

six years pass...

This is a great record. Skeletal, creepy and yes, ahead of it's time. Sorry there's no guitar solos.
