Not a bad list at all. Must get that Ulrich Schnauss album.

Mind you what the hell is that boring Damien Rice doing at number 1? I apologise on behalf of Dublin. I can't speak for the rest of the country, it's a fucking madhouse.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Supersilent's 6 @ 10 ...and higher than Dimmu Borgir.
(I kno next to nuthin 'bout most of the rest, tho)

Other than those, St. Thomas and Magnet are the only ones who have had some attention outside Norway (or possibly Bertine Zetlitz, which is a great electroclash pop album with some of the great songs that most other electroclash acts have tended to lack)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

say what you will - that's a very interesting list, if not a correct one...

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Turbonegro's and Enslaved's fans are exclusively Norwegian.

Re: Damien Rice, I don't see the fuss either, but Norwegians have always had a thing for "melancholy" artists. Leonard Cohen, for instance, is selling more here than in any other country in the world. And our own Thomas Dybdahl and Madrugada have also found a huge market among Norwegian melancholics.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i have not listened to: Kaizers Orchestra: "Evig Pint"

but Scandinavian: it's a trap - music blog rates them highly:

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Kaizer's Orchestra sound like nobody else. Hard to describe, but they are influenced by ethnic music from the Balcans among other things.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

*cough* Tom Waits *cough*

man, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

A little bit of Tom Waits, yes.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, Aftenposten's has no love lost for Jagga Jazzist, i noticed.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"The stix" was released last year in Norway.

man, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

yep Jaga Jazzist The Stix 2002 only in Norway like the band Kaada - everywhere else 2003.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

since when was sounding like Tom Waits a bad thing?

Avi, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Noone said it was.

man, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Turbonegro are huge in Aussie

that's not really true, Jim. Turbojugend Melbourne is, like, ten people (although there are many, many more diehard fans than that, of course)

I think they have a small but incredibly dedicated following here (lots and lots of people went to Sydney to see them in addition to the Melbourne show, for instance.)

OCP (OCP), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

really? they must be a pretty vocal bunch.

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

good to see Manitoba getting some love in Norway

chris (chris), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Geir, was the White Birch album released in 2002 in Norway? 'Cause I'm surprised that's not included! Also: no Motorpsycho & Jaga Jazzist Horns? Or, since it's on a dutch label, wasn't it released in Norway release? (I know you're not a MP fan, but that album is great)

willem (willem), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Kaospilot in there... good work Norway...

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 18 December 2003 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The White Bitch album was released in 2002 in Norway.

man, Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I am pretty certain the Motorpsycho album was released here last year.

I have nothing against them btw. Particularly the more pop oriented style they have been doing lately I certainly like, and there's no denying "Timothy's Monster" had its moments too (hey, it even made it into the Acclaimed Music list!)
