Keith Richard to thread!

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

What kind of drugs? To cite pop favorites: We've got acid kids like the Flaming Lips, heroin addicts like Nirvana, Lou Reed, coke heads like (well I can't think of any primarily coke folks), and all rounders like Clapton, Keith Moon, Ringo (they go hand in hand here, I believe), The Stones, etc.). If you're counting pot as "drugs", don't.

Mike Salmo (salmo), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

My old roomate did coke and smoked some "extremely potent" grass with Tom Petty. She got the impression that it wasn't something he did on a regular basis though. The coke, that is.

Will (will), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

One day i'm gonna come back to this thread and say "ME!"

Sonny A. (Keiko), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 09:02 (twenty-two years ago)

don't those douchebags from Oasis do mountains of coke?

vid, caballero (cab vid), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

It's funny how one of the slang terms (around here anyway) for crack dealer is 'rock star'.

DarrensCoq, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

And it's great how if you're embarrassed about buying a Von Dutch hat this summer, you can take a magic marker and turn it into DON BUTCH. (I just discovered this).

DarrensCoq, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

BOREDOMS

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Shaun Ryder ownz. I once talked to a guy who had seen him in the airport, putting his stuff through the X-ray machine and just walking on like a fucking sleepwalker without collecting any of it. Totally smacked up and off his trolley.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

We've got acid kids like the Flaming Lips

actually, in the sleevenotes to 'finally the punks are taking acid', coyne says he only took acid a coupla times and didn't enjoy it.

stevie (stevie), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the Flaming Lips are totally clean. Wayne has gone to great lengths to reinforce this.

The Super Furries, on the other hand...

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Ryan Adams (he can't recall a few Whiskeytown tours because of it)

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan Adams.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I keep reading that the neptunes are on the coke...

Jole, Thursday, 18 December 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus & Mary Chain, Marilyn Manson, Bobby Gillespie

Well I have it from the horse's mouth (excuse the pun) (from someone who has toured with both, in case you're wondering) that JAMC and Bobby Gillespie are complete pussies - don't believe the hype

The Spotlight Kid (kid), Thursday, 18 December 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Bowie kept Columbia (the country, not the label) economically stable during the 70s

mentalist (mentalist), Thursday, 18 December 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a great 1992 interview with Sonic Boom, with at least 172 sample-ready instances of him lapsing into "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh."

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Friday, 19 December 2003 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

But my favorite is Alice Cooper's celebrated addiction to *Budweiser*.

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Friday, 19 December 2003 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
I imagine that a GOOD many artists are addicted to coke,
speed or meth, mainly because they have the ability and motive
to try it, and you can get addicted to those things after
1 or 2 tries.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I meant to add that they're addicted, but have managed to
keep this from becoming public knowledge.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

If you read the Motley Crue oral hist "The Dirt" you'll know who tops the list.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Coke is such a rotten drug. Nothing good comes of it. Weed is the only safe drug.

shookout (shookout), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

no one's mentioned iggy yet.. joe cocker can't remember most of the 70s..

chris andrews (fraew), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and since relapse is a part of recovery,
I wonder how many of these "reformed" stars are back on the blow.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Brian Wilson
Joe Walsh
Layne Staley

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Did Joe Walsh really do that many drugs? I thought he was just a stoner.

Now Roky Erickson,....there's a drug-taker!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Apparently he's sober, back on his meds and his brother is legal guardian now.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Did Joe Walsh really do that many drugs? I thought he was just a stoner.

When Kurt Cobain checked into celebrity rehab, he ran into Walsh who was checking out.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh well.

Has anyone mentioned the grand high poobah of drug-taking rockstars....Syd Barrett yet?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know that his consumption was extraordinary -
his scizophrenia was extraordinary.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Thursday, 15 April 2004 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The only drug that ever gave me real problems was weed... coke was AOK!

noway (ex machina), Thursday, 15 April 2004 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw two members of ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead smoke crack (these were 2 seperate occasions) at Austin house parties ca. '98. I imagine they're clean now.

Aaron A., Thursday, 15 April 2004 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

The Mars Volta smokes a lot of crack

Sonny A. (Keiko), Thursday, 15 April 2004 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark E. Smith - speed.

What about Bez!?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 15 April 2004 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Husker Du took lots of speed.

Ayres (Z_Ayres), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Gibby Haynes of the Butthole Surfers

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I read that Jet article and it only confirmed my belief that there's nothing more boring than reading about other people doing drugs.

Jet=Bush

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Ian MacKaye used to drink tons of Coca-Cola...with CAFFEINE! Look at any Teen Idles-era photo - he was obsessed.

mike a, Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

re: Joe Walsh

I heard that he was so bad in the 70's - early 80's that he had to hire a bodyguard to keep him from getting so fucked that he couldn't make shows.

Will (will), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Einstuerzende Neubauten. Shitty users (substances and people) and seedy fucks, all. Huge cokeheads, especially Blixa Bargeld and Alex Hacke. If you're around them, watch your wallet.

kjoerup, Thursday, 15 April 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

So the decadance Joe Walsh sang about in "Life's Been Good" is reality-based?

mike a, Friday, 16 April 2004 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i would very much like to hear that s. boom interview. or at least the first few minutes of it

j. pantsman (jpantsman), Friday, 16 April 2004 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil Anselmo. The guy lost chunks of his memory due to all the heroin.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Saturday, 17 April 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

He had chunks of memory to lose? I thought he was essentially a raspy throat and a bald head.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 17 April 2004 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)
