Apparently, this 'lot' consists of some paperwork and a master tape.

Punchline: the master had been "bulk erased" back in 1976.

I saw the titles of these supposed Beatles songs and just assumed the Beatles wouldn't have plumped for such all-round naff titles.

Schwingung (Damian), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

quite.

i cant be the only one thinking of
'the masked marauders'.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

so the residents aren't the beatles after all then?

Probably Klaatu outtakes.

I did read that Lennon and McCartney, at the least, were considering a one-off reunion in 1976 in response to Lorne Michaels' joke $3000 offer to the Beatles to reunite on "Saturday Night Live". George Harrison subsequently played the show and in the pre-show sketch tried to claim the $3 grand, but since he constituted only 1/4 of the group Michaels refused to pay more than that fraction (Harrison's retort: "$750 is pretty chintzy").

what lot who and where?

there were no sessions in 1976 that I ever remember hearing of, even in rumour.

Bollocks, says spokesman

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

if they kept it buried for so long out of "fear of Paul", then why aren't they scared of him now? Horseshit.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"people of the third world"? "rockin' once again"?

this would've at least been good for a laugh if the dude had bothered to make up some better titles!

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Rockin' in the third world
Back home once again
Shiny Happy Feeling People
Little Girl Child

Just a bunch of other ppl's songs (and their own) meshed up!

pete s, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

They may have been "working titles," such as how "Yesterday" was originally titled "Scrambled Eggs," "Tomorrow Never Knows" was originally "Mark I," and so on.

Do you think if something like this existed and was of any count at all it wouldn't already be released?

It would be worth millions and let's be honest, Mac and Yoko don't have any problem at all with attempting to cash in for some more money off Beatles music/memorabilia.

earlnash, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Err - you could have said the same thing in the 70s, 80s or early 90s about all the stuff that eventually turned up on Anthology. I don't think Paul and Yoko's overwhelming priority these days it to make even more millions.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

N, I think that is a REMARKABLY generous assessment of Paul and Yoko's priorities these days.

Andrew L (Andrew L), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Not really - they're just very very rich and I've never got the impression that they're that bothered about making even more. They're more obsessively protective of the Beatles' legacy, is the way I see it. Paul McCartney could be a tax exile if he was that money-oriented.

What next - "Paul sent his kids to state school in order to save money"?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

There's something very English-as-second-language about the title "Shiny Happy Feeling People". It's like something you'd find on a t-shirt in a Sanrio shop.
