He has too many too good songs, so much so that sometimes it just goes completely over my head.
Sometimes his & Sun Ra's horn sections remind me of each other.

I still have my doubts about Mr Kuti - compared to the other four gods of Funk (James Brown, Sly Stone, George Clinton and Prince) he seems a bit lacklustre as his songs usually die on me in the eight or nine minutes in due to lack of variation within the songs - and general thinness of the rhythm section.
Still looking at my collection I realise I have 5 of his albums on vinyl, 7 2fors on CD, and far too much on mpeg - it's just his moments are so much better than the song structures. Sometimes I feel like it's a new genre - ambient funk.
the fela live with ginger baker is actually quite good, as baker thickens up the rhythm section, the songs are shorter, and Kuti comes across as a person with a sense of humour(as opposed to a sanctimonious prick like usual).

This one's sort of tough, though, because most of the time I listen to Fela I get hit unexpectedly by songs I never noticed before. Lady and Zombie are two notable exceptions that were favorites from day one and continue to be so.
