Songs named after your gal / guy

As an Allman Brothers fan, I was always psyched that I had long relationships with both a Melissa and a Jessica (Melissa is a better song, but I'm still with Jessica - 5 years and counting!)

The Fountains of Wayne song "Hey Julie" makes me wish my girlfriend's name was Julie, that song is so sweet and the lyrics are somewhat appropriate.

roger adultery, Saturday, 20 December 2003 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a girlfriend named Julia once. And also, "If You See Kay" by the Poster Children.

Latest ex: Sasha? I'm not sure I've heard any.

Ian Johnson (orion), Saturday, 20 December 2003 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha! I had a mega crush on a girl named Melissa (still do, come to think of it - she's "in a relationship"; fuck that shit!), and the only song I could think of about a "Melissa" was the Allmans tune. Always loved that song.

Also, one of my girlfriends in high school was named Charity. Somewhat uncommon name, yeah. But I always think of her whenever I hear that line in Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again" - "waiting on your sweet charity"

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 20 December 2003 04:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Maria to thread!! um, that's my gal's name and she has an overabundance of songs to choose from.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 20 December 2003 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"Peg" by Steely Dan (my wife's name)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 December 2003 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)

oh scott, I totally love "They Call the Wind Maria" by ... um, whichever dago* it's by. Is it Vic Damone? Jerry Vale?

*I'm half-Italian! it's ok! it's ok!

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 20 December 2003 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean, come on, it ain't like there is a big Italian crooner contingent on ILM. I'm just having a little fun at my own expense. "They Call the Wind Maria" is a fucking great song tho.

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 20 December 2003 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"Peg," thats awesome, that's my all time favorite song

roger adultery, Saturday, 20 December 2003 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Any Jimmy Roselli fans in the house tonite?

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 20 December 2003 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm partial to julius larosa.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 20 December 2003 05:33 (twenty-two years ago)

AlexInNYC, there is also Peg'O My Heart by Gene Vincent.

Nihilist Pop Star (mjt), Saturday, 20 December 2003 05:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"Alison" by Costello. I messed this one up good, and I in no way deserved her in the first place - I see the whole experience as a thrown away winning lottery ticket. When the song comes on there's a 85% chance I'll turn it right off and find a reason to leave the house immediately. Thank God for overdue videos.

DarrensCoq (DarrenK), Saturday, 20 December 2003 05:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, what a bummer, dude. It's one of his only good songs.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Saturday, 20 December 2003 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

AlexInNYC, there is also Peg'O My Heart by Gene Vincent.

Yeah, I've heard about that. But "Peg" was a familiar song before I ever met her, and its spritely sonic sunnyness matches her headspinningly lovely sensibility perfectly (and I used to LOATHE Steely Dan).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 December 2003 07:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"Terry" by Twinkle. Great tune, too.

may pang (maypang), Saturday, 20 December 2003 07:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Julia/Julie (she goes by both). I haven't heard the Fountains of Wayne song, tho -- guess I need to get that after all.

There's the Beatles tune, of course, but my favorite is Prince Buster's "Julie."

spittle (spittle), Saturday, 20 December 2003 07:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Jennifer Juniper is sitting right next to me, eating left-over spaghetti.

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Saturday, 20 December 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Alison" by Costello. I messed this one up good, and I in no way deserved her in the first place - I see the whole experience as a thrown away winning lottery ticket.

My heart is broken now.

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Saturday, 20 December 2003 08:43 (twenty-two years ago)

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 20 December 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

My mother's name is Angela, which means that listening to the Stones' "Angie" always kind of freaks me out.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 December 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

When you date a girl named Amanda, you're pretty much left with that rather b-level track from Boston. Turns out the relationship was pretty b-level as well.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Saturday, 20 December 2003 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

was she from boston aswell¿

dyson (dyson), Sunday, 21 December 2003 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Sunday, 21 December 2003 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, not quite - but there is "Christine Sixteen" by Kiss (from their Love Gun lp), and what a fine song it is!!

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 21 December 2003 09:33 (twenty-two years ago)

She's been around but she's young and clean.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Sunday, 21 December 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

My easiest girl-song matchup was named "Jane." Lotsa Jane songs out there.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 21 December 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

God I hate Unrest.

Luckily there's also "Isabelle" by Charles Aznavour which is all French heavy breathing. And the extra "-le" is OK too cos it's a french word innit.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Sunday, 21 December 2003 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Are there any songs about Chrissy or Christina?

"Christine" by Siouxsie & the Banshees, tho' it's not exactly flattering.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 21 December 2003 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

There's also an "Alice" by the Sisters of Mercy (and a "Marian")

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 21 December 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

There's also "Alice in My Fantasies" by Funkadelic, which rules.

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 21 December 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Then there's "Alice's House" by the Psychedelic Furs.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 21 December 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Bjork - Isobel

Stupid (Stupid), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Emma J, by Brendon Benson.

In the past I had an Anne-Marie and there is a pretty awful Prefab Sprout song by that name. And before that a Sarah, so there you got Thin Lizzy and Fleetwood Mac (but she always liked the reference in Lucky by Radiohead....).

David Nolan (David N.), Monday, 22 December 2003 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

It kinda sucks but it's the full name so points for me there:

James Dean -David Bedingfield
James Dean -The Eagles

see also:

James and the cold gun -Kate Bush
Sweet baby james -james taylor

wondering if i should expand this to jim but think i'll leave it.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I'd had a girlfriend named Isobel. That's such a great song. Although, you know, she'd never marry you because she's married to herself.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 22 December 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"Look At Me I'm Sandra Dee" is the closest I'm gonna get, een tho everyone calls her Sande. And she's Australian too! Oh how we laugh - so lucky my name's not Danny...

gizella lyrics by henzel och thors

From the album racionais mc's

Har förlagt en del av mig
någonstans vid en kust
öppna sår har sytts ihop
brustna tårar torkat ut
Känslor har somnat i glömskans by
men en ensam röst vinden drivit dit
väcker minnena till liv
var finns du nu
Gizella
(jag känner)
Hennes hud i min säng
(och jag känner)
hennes doft i mina plagg
(och jag hör)
hennes steg vid min dörr
(och jag säger)
kom in hit kom med mig
Men när hon kommer så är det en dröm
och trots att min dröm är min fiende
och mina tankar gör mig ont
så vill jag ha dem
Gizella
var finns du nu
Jag ska stjäla allt du har som är mitt
när jag finner dig
jag ska stjäla och plundra
göra inbrott i ditt hjärta
inget kan hindra mig
Jag går i mörker
Gizella
jag saknar dig
jag står i mörker
Gizella
jag kräver dig
jag finner ingen ro
Gizella
var finns du nu
Gizella
kom in hit kom till mig

my aussie gal is named e$tee. (it's a naughty word in french). if anyone even spots the name/word in a song (french hip-hop may be a good source) i would be forever indebted.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 22 December 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

My lady is called Laura, and I know Lush had a song going by that name, and apparently there's some band that may or may not have the word "scorpion" in their name that have a song called "Laura". I'm genuinely eager to hear of any other songs...

person#0 (person#0), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm partial to Tom Waits' "Hang On St. Christopher."

joday (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 05:21 (twenty-two years ago)

dyson is it really a naughty word? What is it? It would be awesome if there was a perfume by "Cocksmoker Lauder"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

haha. the actual spelling of it, i'm not sure of - but how it's pronounced sounds exactly the same.
basically anything religeous, when spoken/uttered/yelled by a french canadian; is a philthy, philthy word (tabernac is another one that comes to mind). anyho i believe es†ee is the french word for a communion box.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)
