Aja (aja), Thursday, 25 December 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry. Too many.

Aja (aja), Thursday, 25 December 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

>a CD of SNL performances

Vinnie's groove on that version of "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" is golden. Crisp. Tight. In the pocket. Impecable playing.

bahtology, Thursday, 25 December 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

DVD player. So I can put, like, every Plaid song ever on one MP3 CD and then happily sit and play ISS till I die. No music as such. Delicatessan! Lots of red wine. Santa loves me.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 25 December 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I already have a harmonica! And harmonica holder as well!

I don't have a tambourine though.

Aja (aja), Thursday, 25 December 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Eeep. That Pearl Jam dvd is awful! On my satellite tv thing, there is a pay-per-view "Freeview" channel that loops a new set of programming every day for a month, and this month one of the programs is an edited two hour version of that PJ MSG dvd. It's shot very badly, the lighting is terrible, and the band are static and amazingly dull to watch. The performances were mediocre at best, and mindnumbingly tedious at worst (see: the extended soloing on "Even Flow.") There's just no excuse for them putting out a dvd so half-assed. It didn't HAVE to suck.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Thursday, 25 December 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate Pearl Jam. I like to sing along to "Jeromey" though.

Aja (aja), Thursday, 25 December 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

AND A SHAVING KIT, COMPLETE WITH BRUSH!

stephen morris, Thursday, 25 December 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

If Pearl Jam is involved it HAS to suck.

i got this massive coffee table book called "Music" edited by Paul du Noyer cos santy knows i like the stuff. and cos i'm a librarian i checked the index first then i went to a section that i know a bit about (Ragga) to assess the coverage and theres a picture of RZA captioned "reggae producer bobby digital etc etc" and i closed the book up, put it in a bag and haven't looked at it again.

Ian Johnson (orion), Friday, 26 December 2003 05:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i wish i'd got a 50 stack of cdrs

gaz (gaz), Friday, 26 December 2003 05:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I got a $600 Zegna jacket from my parents, but I got it last month, so it feels like I got nothing. My brother and his wife sent me a little Cuisinart food processor. When I spoke to him tonight on the phone, he was all like 'you can make pesto, or salsa, or ceasar dressing in it!' I will never ever make anything in it. I mean, I cook and all, but if I want pesto, or salsa, or ceasar dressing, I'm going to BUY it. But nice thought and all.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 26 December 2003 06:01 (twenty-two years ago)

That makes me sound really ungrateful, which I'm not. I love the jacket, and at least my brother got me something; I was too broke this year to afford buying gifts at all.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 26 December 2003 06:09 (twenty-two years ago)

no music at all
got a PS2 though so
ILM goodbye

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 26 December 2003 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

For the first year since I was 8, probably, I received no music for x-mas at all. Funny, since I was probably invested in music (listening to, writing and reading about, performing, etc.) more this year than any other in my life.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 December 2003 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, a stack of CDrs would have be an amazingly good gift.

i can buy 'em though, with my gift certificate??

Ian Johnson (orion), Friday, 26 December 2003 07:33 (twenty-two years ago)

my sisters got me:
Presenting Larry Marshall
Jaylib
Sly Stone Fresh
James Brown In the Jungle Groove

Since I've been out of work for awhile and have dial-up I've been seriously jonesing for some new music. My parents gave me an dookey load of money too, so at this moment I'm buying a few cds online.

oops (Oops), Friday, 26 December 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

First year for about 15 that I didnt get anything musical - but I did get Pro Evo 3 and a great Mexican cookbook.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 26 December 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh also broadband hurrah!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 26 December 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Music related, I got 25 CDRs and that NME Big Book thing which is miles better than the magazine usually is, mainly thanks to Peter Robinson I think.

Nick H (Nick H), Friday, 26 December 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Sod Santa, I just bought myself a 24" widescreen Toshiba TV for £200. I am happy. I am also not leaving the room it is in, as it is now hooked up to my hi-fi (with new Xmas DVD player), and PS1.

Maid, bring my meals upstairs.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 26 December 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Parents gave me two hundred bucks and a card.
My best friend gave me a flap.
Another friend bought me a club pack from M & M meat shop (four t-bones, 4 filet mignon, 4 rib eye).
Another friend lazily gave me a piece of paper with her signature ("redeem for one booty call" - awesome, but I wonder if she gave one to anyone else. LIKE I CARE!).
Cousin mailed me "Norweigan Wood" by Murakami.
No music, no music, no music (what is this, Sal's Famous Pizzeria?).

DarrensCoq (DarrenK), Friday, 26 December 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks to illness, I utterly lazed-out when it came to gift-giving this year. One brother got a check, the other a gift certificate for lobsters, my parents got espresso cups that I didn't even bother bringing over to their house (long story) and my grandma got lottery tickets, the only gift she ever really likes. None of my internet friends got anything this year, sorry.

I got checks and really random stuff from my amazon.com wish list.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 26 December 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Friday, 26 December 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Some CDR's, a mobile phone for the 0.00005% of time I'm out of the house and the knowledge that my guitar that I've had since a child has gone "missing" from my parents house.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Friday, 26 December 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

What I asked for: The Blues Brothers DVD

What I got: A DVD interview with Dan Aykroyd with SNL spots and live performances by the Blues Brothers

Must learn to be more specific when dealing with my mom.

BrianB (BrianB), Friday, 26 December 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

My mom got me Tony Allen's last cd because she heard it on NPR. Go mom.

My girlfriend got me the Bruce Lee dvd box set, which has some funky-ass music (and especially trombone playing) on the soundtracks.

Um, the Indiana Jones box has music too.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 26 December 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

The Kids Are Alright DVD. Already into it....YYYEEEEAAAAHHHH!!! Meet the New Boss...

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Friday, 26 December 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom has Pro Evo 3, THE ADDICTION BEGINS.

Perhaps he can join Cozen and me in our MSN ISS chat, it's extremely obsessive and weird. PRESS R2 TWICE TOM, A HANDY DUMMY.

Congratulations.

Ian Johnson (orion), Friday, 26 December 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Propellerhead's Reason 2.5 music-making software. Tis very very rad.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 26 December 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

jess what do you think
about screwed and chopped banner?
i am curious

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 26 December 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

part of me sides with
ethan: "fucking idm
nerds" but another

side of me feels that
it is a powerfully
weird sound that i

am glad can be found
at my local tower store
for 12.99 + tax

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 26 December 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

also, i do not
like it too much when watts gets
too happy on the

chops to no real great
effect (see "cadillac on
22s", for example.)

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 26 December 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

(by the way, "fucking
idm nerds" references
the "press" the screwed

version has been
getting over the straight version
of the banner alb.)

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 26 December 2003 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I needed a better digital camera and a mobile phone (got both) and didn't put together any music wish-list this year. My most obvious wishes are too obscure for most family members to be able to find them in record stores anyway :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 27 December 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

bought with ca$h/gift certificates:

olneyville sound system 'because we're all in this together'
sunburned hand of the man s/t LP
merzbow 'frog+' 2xCD.
bastard noise 'recycled' cassette
wolf eyes/black dice collaboration LP

Ian Johnson (orion), Saturday, 27 December 2003 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The Miles Davis Jack Johnson Box and Scott Walker's box (with the bum 3rd disc and all), both of which I asked for. I'm a lucky, lucky boy.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Saturday, 27 December 2003 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess:

yeah you might be right
I only own the screwed/chopped
(got it for ten bucks)

listened to the first
briefly skipping through the tracks,
I'll buy it some day

I like the screwed thing,
best metal I heard this year.
pacing's better too;

now the album goes
from pimp/thug to confusion
and ends up with PAIN
