they're the main ones, eskimo being the biggest of the lot. there's much more but a lot are quite samey. (good, but variations on a theme, and there's too many ice themed titles to remember, ice pole, blizzard etc, plus ones like thai weed etc. really it's know we, eskimo, igloo, ice rink)

i dont really agree with half the choices there (im going out isnt anywhere near as good as rolex) but good piece, still.

A lot of great artists express their greatness prolifically, but few in the history of popular music have been so consistently brilliant for so long.
RONG.
― Desmond Decca Aitkenhead (Matt DC), Friday, 24 July 2009 12:08 (sixteen years ago)
I can't think of many artists more maddeningly, annoyingly inconsistent than Wiley..
― Desmond Decca Aitkenhead (Matt DC), Friday, 24 July 2009 12:10 (sixteen years ago)
otm.
but i can think of several who have been as brilliant for longer.
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Friday, 24 July 2009 12:12 (sixteen years ago)
Good track selection though, although I'd be tempted to include both Rolex and ...Going Out. Maybe one Roll Deep-related track as well for the sake of completeness.
― Desmond Decca Aitkenhead (Matt DC), Friday, 24 July 2009 12:16 (sixteen years ago)
im going out isnt anywhere near as good as rolex
totally disagree, easily in my Wiley top 5
― unban dictionary (blueski), Friday, 24 July 2009 15:39 (sixteen years ago)
rolex is one of the best things hes ever done, fuck the haters.
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Friday, 24 July 2009 15:46 (sixteen years ago)
not actually his production tho - i don't hate it, just prefer a whole load of other stuff under his name
― unban dictionary (blueski), Friday, 24 July 2009 15:49 (sixteen years ago)
'rolex' is amazing obv and 'i'm going out' is even better and would've been such a great follow-up
― lex pretend, Friday, 24 July 2009 15:54 (sixteen years ago)
i must be missing something.
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Friday, 24 July 2009 15:59 (sixteen years ago)
Rolex is too repetetive for my liking, Going Out has a bit more "story" (tho having a female on there giving a response could've made it better) and variation due to the guest MCs, plus I find the loop much more satisfying
― unban dictionary (blueski), Friday, 24 July 2009 16:43 (sixteen years ago)

OTM.
Dan is a good writer but he's a great one for staring at something merely good for so long through beer goggles that it becomes amazing/magnificent/stupendous, truly epochal and worldchanging.
(I do this for UK funky I guess but in that case it really is!)

― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 26 September 2014 15:03 (eleven years ago)
mildly irritating to see both dizz and wiley suddenly jump back on to the REAL GRIME bandwagon now that they see "german whip" and "that's not me" chart when it was sort of what they should've been doing all along but this is really good so w/v (and i guess wiley's always vacillated between grime and chartbait anyway)
― lex pretend, Friday, 26 September 2014 15:11 (eleven years ago)
(it's not actually AS great as "german whip" or "that's not me" obv)
― lex pretend, Friday, 26 September 2014 15:12 (eleven years ago)
its irritating but still good to hear dizzee going full throttle again, though id like to hear him over a track like thats not me rather than the trappier stuff
― StillAdvance, Friday, 26 September 2014 16:04 (eleven years ago)
yeah, I've never been mad at Wiley doing a bunch of crossover shit cause unlike Dizzee he's always made sure to attend to his core fanbase at the same time
― bobby shmorbius (The Reverend), Friday, 26 September 2014 21:24 (eleven years ago)
yeah plus some of that stuff was good
do ppl still say "*ducks*"
― Onan Pullett (wins), Friday, 26 September 2014 21:27 (eleven years ago)
well yeah. "Wearing My Rolex" is an absolute classic
― bobby shmorbius (The Reverend), Friday, 26 September 2014 21:34 (eleven years ago)
if thats his house in the video then im glad he has made a bit of money, he deserves it
― nakhchivan, Friday, 26 September 2014 21:40 (eleven years ago)
i was totally wondering whose house that was!
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 26 September 2014 22:47 (eleven years ago)
after finally hearing on a level, its not bad, but he did better 'real grime' on those step freestyles a while back. if he wants to make a single like german whip or thats not me (and actually i dont think he does, hes made a million songs just like this over the years, this is just 'another album' for wiley), he should get someone like skepta or jme to help him write choruses.
― StillAdvance, Saturday, 27 September 2014 08:07 (eleven years ago)
What is the rave tune he samples on 'Laptop'? I've heard it so many times and can't place it

There is - they re-used it on 'Hypnotic St8' under their better known Altern 8 guise.
― nashwan, Friday, 4 May 2018 12:17 (eight years ago)
ah that's where I'd have heard it. I knew it was something more obvious
