I really love this song, especially the chromatic part. It makes me infintely happy to see a current music star playing a Steinway.

What? You mean you HAVEN'T heard "Clocks"??? WHY NOT!?!?!?!?

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I quite like the song, actually, but she sort've needlessly "oversings" the last little bit.

You'd have to have ice in your veins not to like the song, though.

Alicia Keys is lovely.

previously the only single of hers that I could stand was the Prince cover, so it took me some time to warm up to this one. the spoken bridge is kind of absurd but she pulls it off. i'd like to hear the song it samples because I'd imagine this is one of those Kanye productions where nothing much is added to the source material.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the spoken word part is a bit heavy-handed (especially the "can you hear me now?" part...::::shudder::::), but it's still a great song.

First song of hers I've ever liked.

I like the spoken word bit, it's sweet and adds to the sense of narrative. The rest of the song is great too, really lush and stylised.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 1 January 2004 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the spoken word bit too, corny as it is, reminds me of 70s soul numbers like 'Have You Seen Her?" and 'Kiss And Say Goodbye" which I imagine was an intentional homage. Best thing on her album by miles, she needs a good editor to cut out the duff songs.

LondonLee (LondonLee), Thursday, 1 January 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

If there's any model this song has, it's Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes' "I Miss You" (though I bet there are probably a bunch of other early '70's soul songs where the singer "raps" through an imaginary phone call), a song that just outright crushes me, so I was already primed to adore this.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 1 January 2004 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

it's all thanks to kanye west...

fux, Thursday, 1 January 2004 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

...and Main Ingredient.

LondonLee (LondonLee), Thursday, 1 January 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the first song where she really lives up to the Nu Queen of SEOUL tag that the media pressed upon her.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 2 January 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

She's Korean?

LondonLee (LondonLee), Friday, 2 January 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahahahaha

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 2 January 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. Yes, she is. (Or at least her hair is.) (OH NO HE DIDN'T)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 2 January 2004 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha

H (Heruy), Friday, 2 January 2004 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

:-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 2 January 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...

i love it but was always dissapointed that she was just singing over a sampled loop.

titchyschneiderMk2, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 21:55 (eighteen years ago)

I only know the reggae remix of this, which is great.

Alba, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

o noe, a sampled loop

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 22:38 (eighteen years ago)

i say oh no cos shes made out to be this big soul saviour but shes taking the easy route.

titchyschneiderMk2, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 22:45 (eighteen years ago)

That doesn't change the fact that being shocked that a 2003 Kanye West production is built around a soul loop is utterly fucking retarded.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 23:35 (eighteen years ago)

yes it's hardly 'through the wire' now is it rev.

i was mildly surprised to find out it was a loop, but only because i never really thought about it, such was its naturalism. BIG DEAL IN 2007 GUYS.

the new album's leaked, maybe talk about that eh.

r|t|c, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 23:39 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, if you pay close attention, the middle spoken part is actually a recreation rather than the sample.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 23:59 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno about the new album, but the single is rather awful.

The Reverend, Thursday, 8 November 2007 00:00 (eighteen years ago)

well then, even less reason to get vexed.

i still can't bloody decide about 'no one'.

r|t|c, Thursday, 8 November 2007 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

does the new single sound like BEP's where is the love to anyone else?

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 8 November 2007 09:53 (eighteen years ago)

yes.

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 8 November 2007 10:08 (eighteen years ago)

Yes.

The Reverend, Thursday, 8 November 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

yes.

Christyles, Thursday, 8 November 2007 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

Yes.

And something else.
