Please suggest SLOW waltz tune to soon-to-be-wed CRAP DANCERS

So, one is getting married on Saturday (woohoo! etc), and, true to the procrastinatory tendencies of Us the Couple, we haven't really spent weeks perfecting our bridal waltz routine. On the contrary, we've just started practicing a bit, but find that for our level of skillZ, most popular choices are simply TOO MAD FAST or otherwise complicated, probably because a) the classic classical waltzes were made for people who, uh, did these things regularly and b) most modern stuff in 3/4 (rock ballads, movie themes or whatever) isn't really made for formal dance anyway.

Some friends of ours, in their wedding, used Nino Rota's Waltz theme from The Godfather -- this seems more surmountable, with its tempo of about two seconds per bar/measure (or 90 bpm, if you prefer). We might be able to, you know, glide along with something resembling grace then, instead of madly and stumblingly chasing the beat. :) We don't want to use the same one, though, since they'll be there.

So my question, before I start to temposhift .wav files, is: Could you please suggest waltz tunes that is about the mentioned tempo or slower, and which wouldn't be too out of place at a wedding?

Very grateful for any help.

Dan Perry did something like this.

lou reed's "perfect day" seems a great choice, especially on a day like this.

joan vich (joan vich), Monday, 19 January 2004 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Joan: That may well be genius! (Haha, we even murdered it once in drunken karaoke!) Will have to try first, of course, so any further suggestions are still very welcome.

Nordic: Thanks for tip, off to search. (The Dan is west-coast US, is he not, and thus awake in a few hours or so?)

There's an instrumental track by The Band on their 'The Last Waltz' album, called 'Theme From The Last Waltz' ,it's really beautiful and otherworldly and dammit I might just use it if I ever get married!

Actually I think there are two versions one at the start and one at the end of the album, the one at the end is a more orchestral take.

"Waltz of the Wind" by Hank Williams. Beautiful song, not cheesy, used to do it in my band (which was known for being "the band to call for your wedding when you don't want a 'wedding band'.")

This may be too corny for you, but I kind of like "Could I Have This Dance for the Rest of My Life?"

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

(It's a very un-ILM suggestion.)

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Someday My Prince Will Come? (the Miles Davis version starts off with that deceptive vamp, but maybe somebody's vocal version?)

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks for suggestions, but I'm afraid most of these are still TOO MAD FAST... "Perfect Day" is about 140-150 bpm, and the orchestral Last Waltz one almost 180... Will check out the rest of the suggestions as well -- and also consider cheating by using every other beat only ;)

(Stewart: Yes, considered "In the Neighborhood" as well, but were concerned that that voice might scare some of the more frail ears of the assembly, hehe)

Beautiful song, in waltz time I believe.

Ohyeah - another one: "Picture In a Frame" (I believe that's correct) by Tom Waits.

Rick Massimo, Monday, 19 January 2004 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

we danced to "where is my mind?" at my wedding

Marcel Post (Marcel Post), Monday, 19 January 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

we used la vie en rose. get something slower than the piaf version though because it's kind of fast.
