Strictly Kev - Raiding the 20th Century

Download here. SFJ alerted me to this (via his blog, actually; sadly I do not have the Superfriends hookup that others do with him) and three things lead me to believe this will kick me in the face with love:

1) Strictly Kev = from DJ Food
2) it's hosted on Boom Selection
3) lookit that title!!!

It'll take another half-hour for it to finish downloading so I'll weigh in further then.

(Other wrongly titled thread removed. Am downloading now myself.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

If someone could access the tracklisting here: http://www.20six.co.uk/weblogEntry/1pdnoiyforcox (my work is blocking me from accessing it for some reason) it would be much appreciated.

And copy the contents into this thread. Ahem. Thank you.

how efing long is this¿

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 22 January 2004 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

51 MB download...runs for 40 minutes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned you bastard, I was about to post the tracklisting only without italics or doublespacing for easier reading. :(

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 22 January 2004 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops, sorry.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

guilt guilt guilt!

Fear not, another 9 minutes and my angst will be washed away in a sea of beatfuckery

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 22 January 2004 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm ten minutes into listening to it and it's quite something. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually among its other joys is that for the first time ever "Caught Out There" actually works for me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually actually actually. Cue Pet Shop Boys cover.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the Lucier bits throughout too.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

*finishes listening* Heh heh heh. That was a treat and a half.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

>? - Spandau Fillet (mp3)

by the evolution control committee.

it's a good mix.

(Jon L), Thursday, 22 January 2004 03:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i meant to post about this - Kev told me about 6 weeks ago he was planning on doing the ultimate tribute to cut-ups type thing but wasn't sure - great to see he went through with it. extremely congested and not always flowing but just as great as you would hope/expect.

so now i have to try and make something that isn't going to just disappoint people (February 1st you muthas)...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 22 January 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn. Is it down/removed already?

OleM (OleM), Thursday, 22 January 2004 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

my entire server is down indefinitely sadly, but you should find the mix via the 'GYBO' forum

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 22 January 2004 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Finally got around to listening to the whole thing. It gets monstrously boring to these ears when it plunges into Negativland/ECC/Oswald turf and doesn't get interesting again until the Osymyso/bootleg phenom section. But that scratching segment had me giddy and stupid.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Saturday, 24 January 2004 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

And the "Get Ur Freak On" orgy = HOLY FUUUUUUUCK.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Saturday, 24 January 2004 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

this is f'in great. the tracklist above doesn't do it justice though - it needs to be 3 dimensional. i just downloaded it from the link in the initial post...

"play safe, don't share cds with your friends"

tricky disco (disco stu), Saturday, 24 January 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

eleven months pass...
revised version. more samples.

(Jon L), Thursday, 20 January 2005 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

that's just WRONG

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 20 January 2005 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

haha - has anyone heard the new one yet? what's it gain? what's it lose? i always liked the original intro inspection better but this looks to be a much more radical revision. in any case i haven't listened to this in maybe ten months so this'll be fun.

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 20 January 2005 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't help but feel that lots of its cleverness is over my head.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Thursday, 20 January 2005 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

um, how so?

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 20 January 2005 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, primarily that I don't know a huge number of the songs.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Thursday, 20 January 2005 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

This isn't a criticism, mind you; just that I feel like I won't get as much out of it as some ppl.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Thursday, 20 January 2005 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

at last !

this is just too f*cking good.

all bias aside ..

i have sorted out a sendit link if kev's site is hammered.

http://ireallylovemusic.blogspot.com

love the paul morley extras ..

to quote kev : 'this is probably the best mix i've ever done'

and who am i to argue with that ..

m.e

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 20 January 2005 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

ok just got all way through it ..

love Paul M 'dissing' the Strokes

.. huge entertainment value ..

not a proper DJ mix as such, more of a aural documentary of the genre ..

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 20 January 2005 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Some quick takes: sadly, the Paul Morley bits stop the flow cold. But the hip-hop section is delightfully and thrillingly expanded...even if contemporary hip-hop cut-and-mix seems to be represented only by turntablism (OK, well, there's the new Beasties and Jay snippets at the beginning but...).

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 20 January 2005 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm DLing now; thanks for posting this Mark!
Last year's mix was one of the best things I found on the web and really opened up the genre of mash for me; I'm curious to see what more could be done with this MASSIVE document!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 20 January 2005 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

glad someone else enjoys this ..

the djfood site is now offline due to severe demand

.. but there will be bit torrent versions propogating from various places for those that do all that funky stuff ..

but if any ILM'rs are still keen and cant find it .. i'll sort out any sendit ..

onwards !
m.e

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 20 January 2005 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

mark e - thanks for that. The 1st version was crazy but the version I had was highly compressed and hurt my ears. DLing this one now.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Thursday, 20 January 2005 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

.torrent file

superultramega (superultramarinated), Thursday, 20 January 2005 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm listening to this now and it's beyond brilliant. Much better sound quality and more polished with some astonishing blends... the Uptown Top Ranking/We Will Rock You alone makes it worth the download.
And the politics of the song are spectacular! SOOOO recommended; it's pretty much all over the web now but I think you can still find it up at Boom Selection.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 22 January 2005 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

And the "Smells Like Teen Spirit/Bootylicious"!!!!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 22 January 2005 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

The two links above seem to be down, and I don't really understand what to do with a torrent file. Anyone know where I can get this? Nothing is coming up on soulseek.

Jonathan (Jonathan), Saturday, 22 January 2005 04:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"I think you can still find it up at boom selection"

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 22 January 2005 06:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm halfway through the Boom Selection file, and I'm afraid they've labelled and uploaded some dull clicky house mix as the new Raiding. Frustrating result for five hours downloading.

kit brash (kit brash), Saturday, 22 January 2005 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

It's right now.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 22 January 2005 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

mark e (mark e), Monday, 20 March 2006 09:34 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

Erm, I've lost my version that DIDN'T have Morley all over it. Anyone know why I might be able to find it...

http://www.mashupciti.com/2008/11/24/dj-food-strictly-kev-raiding-the-20th-century/

might be it? read about this in that wired article mentioned on ILE was hoping for massive ILM clusterfuck thread

anyway, this is probably the only one of these cut up things i've stuck with longer than 30 minutes

Crackle Box, Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:13 (sixteen years ago)

sorry, lost my non-morley mp3 in the many computer changes that i have had to endure since this all kicked off.

i may be able to get it though if there is a demand.

mark e, Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:41 (sixteen years ago)

ps. that link goes to the non-morley version.
its 39 minutes long.

mark e, Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:48 (sixteen years ago)

seven months pass...

I saw this months ago and totally forgot to thank crackle box for the link. It's so much better without the Morley commentary. I mean I enjoyed listening to him the one time but after that I just wanted the sounds. So anyway, thanks again.

i'm gonna go and talk to some food about this (Ned Trifle II), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 23:51 (sixteen years ago)

six months pass...

a sign of the times i guess.

one of the decks that was behind the creation of this mix is now for sale :
