Can anyone tell me how to get a track listing for this much lauded compilation of 70's and 80's soul (Virgin import)? Better yet, how to buy it?

Hopefully I've managed to get Matos' attention, as he has written about this collection. Thanks.

For some reason, Gracenote doesn't have artist listings for the first CD (I remember that the first 4 songs are by Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Isley Brothers, Betty Everett and Sly & the Family Stone).

Yeah, I can't find this anywhere.
It took me quite a while (and quite a few bucks) to track down Ocean of Sound, too.

Ocean of Sound turns up once in a while on eBay, but I have yet to see Sugar & Poison on there.

Like no other collective group that I can imagine, you have slaked my need to keep looking for this compilation everywhere I go. I can now spend a lot less time in the V/A sections. Thanks everyone, especially for the burned copy Matos!

Been listening to this again recently - a characteristically dodgy sleevenote from DT notwithstanding, this really is my favourite of his Ocean Of Sound compilation series, pinpointing the exact moment where the human voice in soul became symbiotic with ahuman electronics - from the opening guitar, seemingly played independently of Watson's vocal (or indeed the song), via the dissolute bliss of Mr Fingers and Allen Toussaint, to the heartstopping double finale of Luther's matchless "The Other Siee Of The World" - where his ecstasy is so complete that it makes him disappear, atom by atom, within the neon fabric of the song - and Chic's never-more-final "At Last I Am Free."

Now Sugar and Poison is itself a historical artefact, of a time in the '90s when majors were still prepared to become Wire-friendly and let Toop, Kevin Martin and Kodwo Eshun curate double-CD sets of the avant-friendly kind.
