What is going on with Siouxsie's voice?

The Seven Year Itch CD....It's painful for me to hear Siouxsie's voice on it - I'm missing the subtle textures of yesteryear..But - even worse - in places, the mix seems deliberately cruel to her. I was at the concert in London that was recorded, and I know that her voice didn't sound so bad at the time.

It can't have escaped the Banshee's notice. So what are they saying? That's the Banshees are over? The Seven Year Itch Tour was an elaborate joke?

I haven't heard this, but she was never Ella Fitzgerald.

I think it' deliberately "warts'n'all". The show on that tour I attended was no different....

As some snarky NME (or was it MM?) writer pointed out as far back as the late '80s, did you know that "Banshees" is an anagram of "has beens"?

They hit some great heights in their day, and I usually don't subscribe to the let's-be-cruel-and-take-potshots school of music journalism, but that was kind of wryly amusing even back then.

Damn that's harsh. But you're right....damn funny.

Did you know that "Siouxsie" is an anagram for "xiso usei"? Which aren't actually real words, but look really neat?

Siouxsie is an anagram for "Sex? Si! Oui!"

Obviously she's got the transnational menage going. "Vacuum cleaner sucks up Budgie," indeed.

Dan, I thought xiso usei were post-rock pioneers?

true. the voice was always production/board effects, anyway. but that didn't mean the end product wasn't great.
