Lady Saw - I've Got No Problem

On the Danga Zone riddim, really good dancehall tune but does anyone know where I can find a copy which isn't edited -

It's the one with the chorus

"I got no problem here / So I won't take it in the rear"

except it goes "take it in the [kzhzhzhz]" where [kzhzhzhz] is a blurt of noise.

Does it even exist in unedited form?* It would be a shame if not because the way she sings "hearrrrrrr" is the best thing about the song.

*in which case it might not even be the rear she won't take it in, it might be the ear or something, but my GCSE comprehension skills suggest otherwise.

maybe she won't take it in the Leer, what with being so jetset gyal

mp3s of dancehall come from riddim dj promo cds, which is why they come so early compared to 7s; so they usually have only the radio edits. i'd say danga zone is about 2 weeks away from the shops, hasn't been on the radio. can i just say esp with the grime thread around too: VINYL CULTURE IS A BIG DIRTY LIE and those who romantically espouse it don't actually buy many records!

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

right - i aint seen it yet, speaking as someone who spends about £350 a month on VINYL

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

btw http://riddimz.free.fr/ra/dangazone.ram is the capleton one wot i got off google just now, i havent heard the lady saw

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

do you ever buy anything, fassy?

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah it was from a promo CD, I found it with the trusty "dancehall 2004" slsk search.

It's very good, the riddim itself isn't one of those big 'sonic shock of the new' ones that gets talked up but it more than does the job and backs up Lady Saw nicely, I would happily buy it if it comes out unedited.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe you should talk about some records then dave. or does loudly spending more than 3 bills deserve peremptory respect

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

tom, it will probably be available in the next few weeks, i'd have thought... try one of your specialist shops, they're normally okay-ish if you know *exactly* what you want and tell them. regal in hackney is a good friendly shop, avoid blacker dread in brixton if you want an easy life

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

yes i do buy records. and it hurts my heart

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i've not picked up much dancehall over the past 6 weeks or so that deserves a great deal of comment, bit of a lull in productivity over the xmas/new year period making the shops a little quieter behind the counters. i am actually enjoying a lot more techno lately and that wouldn't really fit this thread, but fassy i'll happily drop my wisdom upon you as and when i get anything worth shouting from the rooftops about. why would it upset you to buy music?

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

however, on the lady saw tip, i have to say that the best thing i've herad by her lately is pretty pussy on the trifecta rhythm (of a whole album's worth of stuff can be yours for about 12 quid)

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

dave it upsets me to spend 8 quid on a one sided 12". i´m not saying its evil to charge so much, i guess the small numbers of 12"s put out force the price up, but it still makes it difficult to keep up with things, if you dont have soulseek. i guess dancehall 7"s are pretty cheap, comparitively cheap though - i dont know about that.

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

productivity! i havent noticed: last 3 weeks have seen riddims goldchip, tunda clap, lime cay, glory, qv weaver, raindrops, karachi, like french vanilla sold out everywhere in 2 days i swear... perhaps you might mean qualitywise, ur quite vague. i know u spoke on trifecta and voom voom

i quite like la saw on thunda clap, "i'm comin ovaaaaah! to put my foot pon shouldaaaaah!", took me ages to work that one out

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

"if you know *exactly* what you want"

right yeah, if u go into a shop looking to keep up they will rook you senseless, and even then when u forcibly bring stuff up they scrurry stuff up from behind the counter with an accusing look. techno fair enuff but rap, dancehall, grime sometimes it feels like i'm just being twee throwback in getting the records especially when like 40% never makes it on wax anyway or when it does it's too late to care. i've barely heard a thing on that grime 04 thread and i cannot be fucked anymore frankly

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

and i dont get the putting dough back into the community shtick, surely number one rule of anything is for listener and product to be utterly merciless to each other

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean quality. but i'm moving house so am set for a frugal patch. may have to get soulseek after all, but that means buying an entirely new computer as i = mac enthusiast with no broadband.

"if you know *exactly* what you want"

plus, dancehall-wise, you will be sold all the shite that's come out over the past 18 months that no one's wanted! the only way it's worth going into blacker dread, for one, is to be quite forcefull that you know what you want, otherwise you'll a) get stung b) be totally ignored (seen this more than once tho luckily not happened to me personally)

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah regal records i agree is super friendly and to be cherished dearly but how many times have they told me "er sorry check dub vendor"

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

and i dont get the putting dough back into the community shtick, surely number one rule of anything is for listener and product to be utterly merciless to each other

you've said some interesting stuff and been on-point about a fair few things, but this is just not right to me. i kinda feel obliged on the few donlads i've done, that if i really like something to go out and buy it, otherwise it's like doing a runner from a restaurant where you've had a really good meal - kinda sucks. scruples aside, theres also the point that i'm a sucker for artefacts and if i like something, then i do want to *physically own* it.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

omg dave are you moving out of hackney say it aint so!

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, regal is always 1st port of call, partly coz it's 5 minutes from my flat and secondly coz they's lovely in there... i've got a lot of stuff there but yeah you have a point - just close to my heart, that's all.

and no, i'm staying

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah this is getting into pop vs folk again sorta, i've said elsewhere on the dancehall thred about artefact luv and how indeed it colours one's whole approach to music. luka style identification is wholesome and good but personally i find my listener's callous distanced ear to be funner

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

at the end of the day everyone's out to get your money and ur out to get your jollies so...

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i think it colurs it in the right way, but let's agree to disagree - we both like the stuff, we both know about it, just in different kinds of ways and i'm not into making a big debate about it.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i just wanted to reiterate the internet is nowhere near as parasitic as has been made out, and nor is it supplementary to records these days, if anything possibly the other way around! local grime kids that arent djs, shall we say the closest audience are going online, buying hooky cds from markets... i find the entire issue most interesting from the commerical rap side tho

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

nice that this didn't turn into a riot. very informative.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)
