My friend asked me some informations about these two bands but I must admit I don't have a clue (except that Wild Strawberries are supposed to be McLaren's new protégées") : are they any good ? interesting ?could anybody lighten my night up ?

I thought Wild Strawberries was some sort of trip-hop-lite-lite duo on Nettwerk.

there was a wild strawberries in canada, who haven't been heard from in 3 or 4 yrs (by me, at least). They were quite good, if a little bland, growed-up pop with some adventurous moments.

Well, I think they're supposed to be chinese or japanese bands...then again, not sure...

Actually I've found some Hang on the box ("yellow banana")... it does sound like some japanese girls garage band...

Hum. hang on the box sounds kinda cool... a bit go-go's-ish to my ears.

Hang On The Box are quite good. indeed, Chinese used-to-be-all-girl-band from Beijing, on Benten Records (along with a bunch of other punk bands; at the beginning, i think they were strictly all-girls but then Brain Failure joined...)

saw them live last year With Brain Failure (who is another punk band from Beijing). both were quite fun to see, and highly recommended---although i'm not sure what the new HotB lineup sounds like.

check out Niubi.com for some info and a streaming radio station full of Chinese goodness.

I caught a documentary about Malcolm McClaren on Radio 2 a few weeks back. At the end he was asked what he was up to now, music wise. It turns out that Talcy Malcy is currently exited about two things: 1) something he calls 'chip music', which is the tunes from Gameboys and C64s remixed into dancey type music (think Zombie Nation but keeping the bleepy-ness), and 2) Chinese girl-groups, one of which may be called Wild Strawberries IIRC. A section of one of their songs was played, it sampled Kung-Fu Fighting quite heavily, in a mash-up style which the girls sang over in a girlie way. Sounded like Shonen Knife given the Freak Like Me/Being Nobody treatment.

A bit late for him there.

As an extension to the question, do you have other japanese/chinese punk bands worth soulseeking ?

AleXTC (AleXTC), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
. . . saw Beijing Bubbles last night, & Hang On The Box were k-grebt - bits reminded me of Y Pants, Young Marble Giants, even Pulsallama-meets-Neu! sort've stuff, + shouty Ramones interludes. I really, really want the singer's "Rave Rock" t-shirt.

So, anyone heard much of their recorded output? Recording a new album w/Blixa B!
