NEW YORK (AP) -- Iron Maiden offered its sympathy to fans whose concert experience was ruined by a beer over the weekend. Iron Maiden manager Ron Smallwood said on the band's Web site ``some idiot'' on the mezzanine of their show in New York ``thought it was a good idea to chuck his beer into the air rather than down his throat.''

The beer landed below on the mixing board. It blew out several channels and kept the band from playing any encores. Smallwood said the band felt ``gutted'' about the incident and he thanked fans for being understanding. He added, ``And to the idiot who caused this, I do hope you learned a lesson.''

Wow. Glad I didn't go after all.

I feel pretty sorry for them, actually. What a shitty way for a show to get fucked up.

I bet they're regretting their "no more arenas" decision already.

I was at that show. I knew something was wrong when, toward the end of "Iron Maiden" (last song of the set proper), all the sound disappeared, then the only thing you could hear was the drums, head-crushingly loud, then it came back, all within the space of about 10 seconds. Then they said good night and it was only when they came back for what would have been the encore that the announcement was made. So they did play a solid 90 minutes before the blow-out.

I actually don't feel that cheated, because when they came back, Adrian and Dave were carrying acoustic guitars. I fear if they'd played an encore, it might have been "The Clansman," and that would have been worse than no encore.

Oh yeah, and Arch Enemy fucking tore the roof off. All in all, it was a very good show, for as long as it lasted.
