Seriously.

If Franz Ferdinand deserved their own thread, then...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

That's Snow "Formerly on Jeepster and featuring the feller that founded The Reindeer Section" Patrol, by the way. In case you were wondering.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Go Colin, it's your birthday.

Llahtuos Kcin (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

TWEE IS BACK!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

HA HA HA! I put "Spitting Games" on my P&J Top 10! HA HA HA!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Odder still - Pink is missing the top 10 by a pretty fair distance.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

what's going on with the UK's top 5?
not that i don't like indie bands reaching the top places, but i wonder why are the average ones being chosen instead of the more brilliant ones.

(x-post) so i like twee being back, but i'd rather see other bands up there

joan vich (joan vich), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah January

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Should also be pointed out that Snow Patrol are childhood mates of Colin Murray.

The prospect of Colin Murray actually having an influence on British popular music... eek.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

That's not so odd, her album's tanked, and I only noticed "Trouble" when I was in Europe and it was everywhere.

(re tweeisback - if ex-regular Ktee gets into the Top 20 as a result of all this nonsense it would be grebt!)

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i still have to listen to her stuff. is she doing anything nowadays?
i liked the lollies concept, btw, if there was one

joan vich (joan vich), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked "Spitting Games" better.

But anyway, lets go and get one. Again.

Was that them doing "Crazy with love" yesterday?

btw. Jeepster, do they only sign bands no matter what they are like as long as the lead singer can be compared with Nick Drake?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

January sales slump... I remember Tori Amos managed to get a No 1 album out of it way back when.

I'm surprised at how shoddy and ignorable Pink's latest stuff is.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I had been given to understand that snowpatrol had eschewed all former tweeness and gone for the full Celtic Rock breakfast. Was I misled?

(Joan: different Kate.)

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

ooops

joan vich (joan vich), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think Jeepster exist anymore. They only ever had B&S, Salako, Snow Patrol, Looper and The Gentle Waves, all of whom are on different labels now (Snow Patrol are currently on Mercury, I think).

Tim: this new single would sort of support that.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

If Kate got into the top 20 that would be grebt too of course.

And the V1s1t0rs reunion seems very well-timed too come to think of it.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Also missing top 20 - Jaimeson, Joss Stone, Mr On & The Jungle Brothers.

P Diddy & Lenny Kravitz have missed the top 40 altogether.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm rubbish yeah I'm rubbish now
I'm rubbish y'all, I am rubbish my own town

(xpost) - I dont think discouraging Kravitz is a bad thing...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha NUL POINTS for me then.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

The only record anyone's getting points off this week may well be Emma Bunton...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

#7, possibly ... :)?

robin carmody (robin carmody), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

No. #7 is a new entry but I'M NOT SAYING ANYTHING ELSE BECAUSE IT WOULD ONLY WRECK THE SURPRISE FURTHER.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

ah I see ... :).

(looks forward even more to Sunday's chart, despite W. Butters)

robin carmody (robin carmody), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, those of us wishing to sample the glory of SCISSOR SISTERS ON TOTP will also have to sit through:

Michelle
Incubus
Stereophonics
Westlife
Maroon 5

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Under the old system, Outkast would have been back on...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

these midweeks are mystifying. this month I have noticed several singles you would expect to make the top 10 fall short. on the other hand Kelis has done far better than expected.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Right, the Snow Patrol single sounds like 'Words Fail Me Now' by Minuteman, if you know what that is. It's a big, loud ballad thing, quite on the slow 'n' heavy side but not in a terribly boring manner... most of ILM will not be keen, but I think it's OK.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

it's no 'Sonnet'

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank fuck.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Incubus *and* Westlife? Dear god ... an unholy alliance indeed. You can tell TOTP is ultimately overseen by someone who does the weekend breakfast show on the station which networks Hit40UK, can't you?

robin carmody (robin carmody), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

or was that the wrong terminology on my part - "ultimately overseen" = Greg Dyke, surely? damn I am nervous today ...

robin carmody (robin carmody), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, hang on.

This sounds like 'American Trilogy'! By The Delgados!

Torn twixt screaming "YES!" or "WANKS!"...

Cos it's not as good, obviously. But... fuck!

The Delgados have a new album out in the summer!

COME ON!!!

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Snow Patrol are T4Indie, though, aren't they?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I have mad deja vu with this thread right now.

Snowpatrol used to be on jeepster, then they had a falling out for reasons I can't remember. Something to do with the recording of their last album. They got signed to a major a while ago. Gary Lightbody used to go out with Gill Mills of the Session in Scotland. He likes cocaine, apparently.

hmmm, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, who doesn't?

flowersdie (flowersdie), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Having just downloaded it I can confidently ask

WHAT THE FUCK ARE THE PEOPLE BUYING THIS SHIT PLAYING AT?

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

It sounds like Gary Jules covering Blur's "Sing" for heavens sakes.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i have decided people are only buying it cos they have Snow in their name and this week it's supposed to snow.

a re-release of 'Informer' is sooooo necessary now

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually the music is more like The Wedding Present (Chopped And Screwed) but only not as good as that would be. And the singer is more like a male Cranberry.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

flowersdie - For the record I do not like cocaine. Mr. Lightbody, from whatI have heard, likes it A LOT.

also, tico tico OTM OTM

hmmm, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Any stats on how many records they have actually sold? Where do you get the midweek info from?

hmmm, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

HolyMoly. Apparently you'd only need to have sold 1,500 to have goen top 20.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

the singer's pretty nice (gary); he plays in goals fr most time i play tuesday football, a nice guy.

jeepster signed, at one point, ian mcculloch, whatever came of that?

i saw snow patrol live in freshers week. t4indie enough?

i like two snow patrol songs from the first album: starfighter pilot & velocity girl; that's as far as i'll concede.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I had to review the Snow Patrol album last year... I dug it out and played "Run" three times back to back, and I can't remember a SINGLE THING about it! wtf is this song of utter nothing? Fuck this.

If it's such a slow week will Kelis maybe at last get to No 1?

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

cozen - They did, didn't they? In so far as I can remember, he never released anything on Jeepster and ended up putting his album out elsewhere, can't remember where though.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

snow patrol are dullsville. i liked "starfighter pilot" and the reindeer section were nice enough, but i draw the line there. the single is an awful ploddy ballad - it sounds like feeder.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It has actually made me dig out the Wedding Present again - go on, re-release "Bewitched" EMI, you know you want to!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i used to go on the jeepster chatroom, bizarre fact lovers

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not just his hair he grooms!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I did too.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

DON'T TRY IT TICO

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"I like your duffle coat, Choirgirl82. Would U like 2 meet me?"

Llahtuos Kcin (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i did too! *stifled groan*

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, I can remember way back when Belle & Sebastian were bigger than Snow Patrol and Franz Ferdinand...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

them were the days...

I have been hoping against hope that we would not witness the rise of snowpatrol. We do not need any more shit indie bands. I hope they get dumped into the Coldplay wannabes bin real quick.

hmmm, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Keane next?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

when did B&S ever have a top ten hit tho?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Legal Man was fourteen, or so..

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Comparing it to Feeder is a little harsh. Feeder come second in my most horrible band list only because Kelly Jones isn't in them.

Why are the Beeb paying people like Colin Murray to heep this shite on people? It's like Steve Lamacq was never dropped! At least Lamacq never thought he was funny.

Nick H (Nick H), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd take Colin Murray over Zane Lowe ANY day.

hmmm, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Snow Patrol: excellent single, shitty album. Oh well.

Stupid (Stupid), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

From the Popbitch email today -

++ Top Ten
SNOW PATROL Run
Scottish Coldplay-wannabes.

Hooray!

hmmm, Friday, 30 January 2004 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

1500 copies to get into the Top 20. Good grief, it's a pity the level wasn't so low back in the good ole days of '79 - all these 50,000/60,000 selling post-punk singles like "She Is Beyond Good And Evil," "Mind Your Own Business" and "Fairytale In The Supermarket" which didn't even break the top 75!

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 30 January 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"Chart Return Shops"

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 30 January 2004 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Would it kill record companies to peform buy-ins on, you know, actually good records?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 30 January 2004 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

It would probably kill Woolworths to stock good records.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 30 January 2004 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

And their pick and mix is far too expensive.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 30 January 2004 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

On the little I've heard of Zane Lowe, he seems better than Murray who has zero redeeming qualities.

Nick H (Nick H), Friday, 30 January 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Scottish Coldplay-wannabes.

Aren't Snow Patrol Irish? Just cos they live here, grumble grumble...

I saw them live once and bought one of their singles. They aren't very good.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 30 January 2004 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I think they are irish, at least partially. I was so pleased that my coldplay wannabes line was vindicated that I didn't notice.

I should, perhaps, get out more.

hmmm, Friday, 30 January 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

It's all rather bemusing (or just an indication that I'm utterly out of touch, which I am) - SP were emphatically the runt of the Jeepster litter; those of us dragged along in B&S's wake who chanced a Salako record or two wouldn't even look at them. I thought they'd just faded away.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

It's worth mentioning that Snow Patrol's 2001 album When It's All Over We Still Have To Clear Up is very good indeed, even though nobody bought it whatsoever. The new stuff's a bunch of arse, however.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
i think i really like the new record.

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 17 April 2004 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
actually me too. well, what I've heard so far.

cºzen (Cozen), Saturday, 31 July 2004 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

not sure why this is getting praise from a bunch of people whose taste i usually trust. the best thing i could think to say about 'run' is that the verses remind me a little of post-4AD piano magic, and i'm not even fucking with pre-4AD PM anymore. what's still to like about post-grunge softloud versechorus dynamics when the chorus's less hooky than, oh, say, "yellow"? plus it's over 5 minutes!! and it's not even emo-wintertime in america, so you people really have no excuse. i am open to mindchanging, but it better be better than an appeal to hearing this as comfort music for ex-indie ex-teens.

m. (mitchlnw), Sunday, 1 August 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Ugly people should not be allowed to make music.

Show me the sex appeal in The Snow Patrol.

CRW (CRW), Sunday, 1 August 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Colin Murray thinks U2 should headline next year's Glastonbury.

Says it all really.

CRW (CRW), Sunday, 1 August 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

pinch of sticking up fr 'derided by the discerning' (cf. coldplay), pinch of summer melody & heatstroke, pinch of liking gary in an 'he's OK' way rubbing off on his music's reception, a touch of ubiquity and being tired of running away from it, tht pretty alt.rock guitar sound (normally called for 'dynamics') (cf. run's first few shuffly guitar chords w. the rest of the song) achieving advert level success, ok voice, it's ok, no not sexy but neither are [whoever, mostly], corny lyrics yeah so what, other things I can't quite place.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 1 August 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"pathetic epic".

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 1 August 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe it's the song's non-ubiquity here that's stopping me from being pushed/pulled in any direction away from 'eh' shruggery.

m. (mitchlnw), Sunday, 1 August 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure I love it but it's caught w. me.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)
