yeahyeahyeah (yeahyeahyeah), Monday, 26 April 2004 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

According to the Sunday Times, the Musicology tour will eventually hit the UK this year, date unspecified. The album's at no. 3, so I think he'd want to do this now that he has people caring again.

Barima (Barima), Monday, 26 April 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to see his tour but it's too expensive.

(yes, I'm a Prince fan, so nyah).

uh, Monday, 26 April 2004 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont think hes coming here til next year or so, he has to milk every corner of the states first.

Anyone going to any of these London shows (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6635673.stm)? I just got a couple of tickets for the second Millennium Dome gig (using my O2 customer code -- they can't give me a signal in my house, but they can give me good seats for Prince shows). £31 + grotesque Ticketmaster booking fees, but a copy of the new album is included. He's shredding in the round, presumably like the Superbowl show.

caek, Thursday, 10 May 2007 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

theres tickets for a gig at koko tonight but it sold out in about 10 mins or something.

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 10 May 2007 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

im going tonight!

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 10 May 2007 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, saw those. Presumably more shows not at the O2 Arena will be announced. Let us now how tonight's gig is!

caek, Thursday, 10 May 2007 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

i will.... he better do a proper gig. if its going to just be a 'private party' with no performance im going to be pissed.

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 10 May 2007 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

Innit. "Private party" sounds ominous, especially so shortly after the press conference, but there should be a short gig at least.

I'm a dozen rows back in block 102 at the second arena show. Good times.

mike t-diva, Thursday, 10 May 2007 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

HAY GUYZ!

I have heard rumours of smaller shows in the offing somewhere. Any hints?

Positive (if fluffy) reviews from the first O2 show last night:

I'm going tomorrow night, and am now officially excited.

i went, hes still got it, it was a good show, but its a pretty tame, safe show. the 02 sound was a bit annoying too - very BIG standard echoy arena sound where it almost sounds muffled. the thing that surprised me though was if its meant to be the last time he plays the hits, how come he played so few of them? still, there were some great moments - controversy, feel for you, but IMO he didnt really seem to get inspired til the acoustic encore (which was brill) and when he did love bizarre. that was worth the ticket price though, just wish the acoustic segment was longer. he doesnt really give his old hits much room to breathe by and large though - almost rushes through them or edits them so much or rejigs them unnecessarily. my other gripe was too much slow material, not much pace to the show, or energy, but maybe thats to be expected. i would actually have liked to have heard more of the new album too actually, just cos its got some good fast songs and he seems more inspired to sing them as theyre fresher, not 20 yr old hits he doesnt really seem to care for anymore.

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 2 August 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)

Where were you sitting? We're gonna be sitting in the upper tier and wondering if it might be a bit remote. Going on the last night though, he might pull out a few more stops.

ledge, Thursday, 2 August 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

4th floor! pretty high up so can only get an idea of his facial expressions (essential for appreciating prince!) from the screen. didnt help i was sat to two annoying lagered up idiots and the seats are quite small for me.

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 2 August 2007 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

the thing that surprised me though was if its meant to be the last time he plays the hits

Ha, I thought the tour before this was the "saying goodbye to the hits" one?

Jordan, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)

(or maybe it was the tour before that one?)

Jordan, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)

i've been offered a ticket but am passing it up for some bizarre reason

blueski, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

well hes always doing 'last time to hear the hits' tours but on the previous ones he at least PLAYED the hits! or more of them at least.

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

david bowie SOUND + VISION tour 1990 anyone?

pisces, Thursday, 2 August 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

Was their a support act last night? Who/what time? And what time did the main event finish? And what time did you get out?

caek, Thursday, 2 August 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

Sorry, what time did the main event start.

caek, Thursday, 2 August 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

JUST GOT FLOOR TICKETS FOR 28/8 V V EXCITED WOO

G00blar, Thursday, 2 August 2007 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

he doesnt really give his old hits much room to breathe by and large though - almost rushes through them or edits them so much or rejigs them unnecessarily

this is the way he's performed his 80s material lvie for at least the last 15 years.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 2 August 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

Colleague of mine who thinks Prince is "weird" and "crap" going tomorrow (Friday) on a freebie. I think I'm jealous, but not that jealous to pay the travel + relatively cheap ticket price to go too. Ten or so years ago I'd have been moving to London for a fortnight and going to the whole lot of them, now, meh, not so much. Possibly due to his lack of reverence for the stuff that matters to me, as mentioned above.

(attitude might have been like g00blar's had I scored freebies, I guess)

ailsa, Thursday, 2 August 2007 22:51 (eighteen years ago)

(not freebies--we just had assumed that everything was sold out; never actually checked before last night)

The view from my seat.

I went to the second show on August 3. Amazing, if a little short.

caek, Saturday, 18 August 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

Also, apparently the view (and sound) on the floor is not too great.

caek, Saturday, 18 August 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

Hey when should we get to the O2 tonight? When's he on?

G00blar, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 12:21 (eighteen years ago)

Any time between 8.30 and 9 but apparently he's occasionally started earlier. Getting there for 8 should see you safe.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

Cheers

AWESOME. All the hits, (some of them only played in a breakneck-pace solo synthesizer medley but even that was hella fun), multiple encores, fantastic guitar work, dancing, band. Not a foot wrong.
