So the local MusicThatDoesn'tSuck(tm) radio station has been playing this song of hers called Love Song #1 that's kind of dub and very nice.

But according to Google no-one outside of Japan has actually heard of her.

What's the album like? Ooh, apparently she plays bass, too. Could be interesting...

But Babelfish gives me:

ƒRƒŒ which is enormous and is. It is tremendous, is. Although it was ƒtƒ@ƒ“ƒN of her ƒoƒbƒLƒoƒbƒL, coming here, outer space it was connected. It is ƒ}ƒbƒVƒ”ƒAƒ^ƒbƒN and the living color and the feeling which was mixed into ƒ}?[ƒ”ƒBƒ“ƒQƒC and ƒOƒ`ƒƒƒOƒ`ƒƒ. Solution you drive? This album, complaint it is not it is No.1 of this year. It is miracle, this sound is miracle. Fairly well, the art calendar is long, we would like to see being, also ƒ}ƒhƒ“ƒi works, we would like to see. By the way it is her based player. With the ‚Á, it visits Japan, it is the oven which is it is ƒuƒ‹?[ƒm?[ƒg of the framework attachment which wants. You do with another unit and the joint of Soviet reverse side eve, we would like to see, is, but ƒuƒ‹?[ƒm?[ƒg is hard nevertheless, is. You probably will do with the liquid. The guitar make repel in we!

i really like it. lots of dub/reggae influence. kind of woozy/spacy. the lyrics are really simple compared to her earlier records.

She's actually fairly well-known in the U.S. She had a minor hit in '94 with "If That's Your Boyfriend (He Wasn't Last Night)" and around that time, did a duet with John Mellencamp of Van Morrison's "Wild Night." She's put out a bunch of records since then and always keeps herself busy with a wide range of side projects, including vocals on two tracks on Basement Jaxx "Kish Kash" last year.

The new album is awesome. Dubbed-out grooves that wouldn;t sound out of place on Maxinquaye with vocals reminiscent of Sade. Every so often, tracks abruptly switch into Maggot Brain-esque guitar wankery. I dig. I hadn't heard a full album of hers in a long time before this one. Are her others this eclectic?

I was turned on to her by her great break-up album 'Bitter' while touring the US in '97. The last one, 'Cookie' was a bit too eclectic/all over the place for me but 'Comfort Woman' is a really good late night groove (only marred in one place by the heavy metal guitars that are all over the last one). No great songs, so it's not quite 'Let's Get It On' but very enjoyable none the less.

Anyone seen her live?
