Allmusic kinda hates on this album...but the Non-Prophets sample of "Peer Pressure" reminded me how dope that track was.
I'll have to admit I've only heard that single...anyone else heard the full album? Obviously it doesn't compare to the incredible-ness that is Infamous, but still...what are everyone's thoughts?

Hopefully someone here has some.

Dee - It was ok and that's about as generous as I can say. the production team was tops with Large Professor and DJ Premier (among others) lending their talents but it was really hard to take MD seriously at this point in their career. I mean, a bunch of newly post-pubescent teens talking about "Hit It From the Back"? It didn't work - it was Chi Ali - the Thug Years.

That's why "The Infamous" was such a surprise to me - it felt like a career reinvention as they suddenly stopped seeming like a bunch of kids with overactive fantasies and instead sounded like young adults with inspired imaginations and a consistent sound that helped define them much better.

Thanks for the info man....What do you think of their third album?

btw I'm buying yr "Classic Material" book tonite. That Nas essay sorta convinced me...but I've also been unable to find any books that have serious and good writing on hip hop - I thought Rap Attack was pretty good up until the early 90s where it sorta drops off.
Any other recommended writings on the genre?

Dee - Check out Jeff Chang's reading list. I'd also suggest that the Vibe History of Hip-Hop is pretty good as a canon-istic text and you might try to track down a copy of Adam Sexton's "The Rap on Rap" which was a "best hip-hop writing" anthology put together in the mid-90s. Keep an eye out for Raquel Cepeda's upcoming book which is a more updated "best hip-hop writing" tome.

It's aight, no Infamous, though. I remember first hearing Juvenile Hell and lookng at the album cover thinking "DAMN, I'd hate to run into them ankle biters." Locked in Spofford is dope. The production is tight, but Prodigy still hadn't fully honed his skills.

two years pass...
"Hit It From The Back" is kinda hilarious. I should just dismiss it as misogynist bullshit but it sounds like they're 12!
