actually here's a thread to talk about ark (wanted the title searchable)...

i had been sort of lukewarm on ark (too convoluted, too clicky-cutty) but i just recently realized that he's 50% responsible for this, which is one seriously underrecognized piece of french house genius.

also i really liked his old work on the brif label, particularly "punkadelic". it had a fat, tough analog vibe to it.

so can anybody give me thoughts/opinions about ark/alleluyark? i suppose this would be an appropriate place to drag cabanne and co. into it, too.

i like the ark stuff because it sounds like a toughened street version of perlon.

I agree with tricky disco - Ark's stuff is just straight-up rough (in a micro kinda way)! I like the quirkiness and underlying sense of humour in his tracks, which would probably be a major turn off for most. I think that many in the minimal house scene in France are on this same wavelength too (Feadz, Krikor, etc.) I've heard one of Ark's earlier records and thought it was pretty good.

But I know what you mean vahid. This stuff in general has the tendency to become entangled in its own web of meandering. Of course, I don't even think Ark himself plays a set entirely consisting of clicky, stutter house. It usually sounds best mixed over something less spastic!

I heard he's a big Freaks fan too!

I think all the records he did since like '99 were only made as dj tools. I remember him saying in some mag that he was now gonna give up this micro-tech sound to take another path, I don't know which one, but 2-step or booty would be nice.

Vahid, I second you: Trankilou (with the great Pepe Bradock) and his early solo tracks were more catchy and consistent than his recent stuff. I'd say Ark's a better dj than producer, his sets are unpredictable, lively and versatile, unlike the most of his own productions.
