e.g.: i told a friend that creedence clearwater revival's "lodi" reminded me of joy division. she said, "what?" (no, the friend is not aja). and that, the more i think of it, CCR were the american kinks. again, "what?"

what bands/songs do you see "connected" to other bands/songs, but other people don't?

Must you say it wasn't me?

I would have an answer to this is people I know listen to the things I listen to.

I distinctly remember my friend Rob, upon hearing "This Corrosion" by the Sisters of Mercy for the first time in the latter part of 1987 turning to me and saying:"Sounds like 'Are We Ourselves?' by the Fixx!"

This made me grimace. But if you listen closely, there is a simillarity.

I remember once drunkenly trying to convince people that "Lullaby" by Shawn Mullins sounded exactly like "Hometown Unicorn" by Super Furry Animals. I'm not sure if I still stand by this though.

I'm convinced lately that Ride's "Black Nite Crash" (minus the vocals) anticipates the White Stripes, but I'm not sure if anyone believes me.

Nobody believes me when I say Godflesh sound like Joy Division.

They sound more like Killing Joke's first record, actually.

My contention that "Ode to Billie Joe" = Nick Drake's "River Man" is invariably met with disbelief.

How about Eno's "King's Lead Hat" and The Cars "Shake It Up". In the verses. Anybody hear that?

Paul Westerberg on "Favorite Thing" has always reminded me of how Billie Joe Armstrong's voice.

And I always hear Paul Westerberg whenever I hear Kurt Cobain's singing.

Paul Westerberg on "Favorite Thing" has always reminded me of how Billie Joe Armstrong's voice.

Err...with all due respect, shouldn't that be the other way around?
