How about ILMers whose parents named them after songs? ;-) (Not that there are Beach Boys songs that my dad loves with my name.....)

When my partner and her daughter moved in with me a couple of years ago they brought a cat that answered to the name of Ellie.

Since then she's been subjected to me singing "Eloise" at her so much that she's now convinced it's her name.

My computer at work is named Jarvis (after Cocker). Does this count?

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 5 February 2004 22:51 (twenty years ago) link

sorry, Jarvis is not a song

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 5 February 2004 22:52 (twenty years ago) link

Just to be clear, I don't talk to my computer and treat it like a pet, but every computer in the department needs a name on the network, and mine is Jarvis.
However, it may be too late for you all to think I'm not wierd.

i've got a friend who named his dog isis. its a good name for a pooch i think

gallantseagull, Thursday, 5 February 2004 23:04 (twenty years ago) link

I started at a job where the computers were already named... Mine was Manilow.

I think Barabajagal would be a good name for a dog.

I called my hamster Gruff after the singer from super furry animals, does that count? It was also because the band once had a hamster called Stavros, i thought it was appropriate.

Way back when in 1989, I named my burmese cat Bez, and it turned out to be an apt name as he used to get smashed off his brain on catnip and fall around. Now he's old and arthritic and lives with my parents.

Many years later, another cat of mine was burdened with the name Snowball (from the first Field Mice album), but that was truncated to Snowy by pretty much everyone, and anyway she didn't last long. The two cats in our house now have sensible names as the ones I named non-sensibly have ended up dead.

Was snowball a black cat, by any chance?

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 6 February 2004 13:32 (twenty years ago) link

Nope, mainly white with a tortoiseshell tail. Lovely looking cat. Gone but not forgotten.

Our two dogs are named after Kinks songs: Lola and Watts. And before you ask...no, their is no ambiguity about their sexual orientation.

I have some friends who named their cat Carlos (after Santana) - i remember he had markings on his face that looked like a moustache.

I had a barn cat that made batch-after-batch of prime-grade kittens. One litter begat Cat Power and Peetie Wheatstraw.
