Purdie on the ILM brain lately, it seems. I'll offer up King Curtis 'Memphis Soul Stew' and the couple tracks he does on Jimmy Smith's 'Damn!'. Someone else would be better suited to mention his Steely Dan stuff, probably.

Last night I was listening to a bunch of old jazz guys grouse about the rock era and then one said "you know who the best rock drummer is? Bernard Purdie, he's wonderful!"

There was some elaborate explanation by somebody that he may actually have overdubbed some of the Tony Sheridan tracks and then the whole thing got blown out of proportion and he couldn't back down.

By the way Bucky Pizzarelli loves Purdie's playing.

Long ago, I ordered something from a Goldmine dealer and got Gato's El Pampero: Live At Montreux by mistake, I only listed a couple times before sending it back, but recall thinking Purdie was pretty strong all the way through, incl. on the long studio bonus track, "El Gato." Always enjoyed his R&B sessionsm and now it finally occurs to me that I should seek out more work w jazz musicians. Any tips?
Here's the one I heard:
