japanese folk singer active in the 70s and 80s - i guess.

i became aware of her about eight or nine years ago - whenever slap happy humphrey released their covers record - and just finally found a few albums on slsk. and they're amazing. hauntingly beautiful and all that rub. strings and sadness. pure magic, really.

anyway, info on the www is pretty scarce - about the best site i could find was http://www.gogorocket.jp/doji/h/m-cd1.html and i don't read japanese, of course. i did manage to get some rough translations of song/album titles with some web filter crap but y'know...

so yeah, anything at all?

oh, and you better believe the album art on that gogorocket site increased my appreciation exponentially.

being in a similar situation - having the slap happy humphrey album and being curious about the originals - your post inspired me to download "good bye" and "mother sky." amazing. what a voice! wish i could find the albums on CD somewhere (hmv japan has a best-of).

'the japanese vashti bunyan etc, etc.'

(took me a while to find her stuff on soulseek - apparently 'douji' and 'dohji' are as common transliterations as 'doji.')
