Elvis is Dead, Sunday, 29 February 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

How do I play a 'boxed set' on my megatron?

ps. isn't 'Patio Song' from 1997?

2034N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 29 February 2004 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

My, that must have taken you some time, Elvis...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Sunday, 29 February 2004 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm i like pretty much all of those songs. i could however nitpick and say that non-singles and hits shouldn't apply....

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

it has Gary Jules and Jet on it!

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

"pretty much all" is (thankfully) not all

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i like those two more than mecca normal though

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Lenny Kaye wept.

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

lots of great stuff here and there but considering some of the dross included it seems a bit daft to leave out The Strokes and The White Stripes, presumably on purpose?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

no hits!!! no point in nuggets existing if it was all rolling stones and beatles

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Now that you've done the preliminary work, please encode all tracks to mp3, normalize the volume and start posting the compilation to Usenet. At that point someone can write a review from the perspective of 2034.

no opinion, Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

lots of tracks on those CDs were pretty big hits tho (Jet, Hot Hot Heat, GARY JULES, Aqualung, Electric Six...)

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

(Dead Elvis surely has all the time in the world...)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Bit sad for the guy who did mad world *featuring* gary jules, now it's gary jules' mad world!

pete s, Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

We just live in it.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

The original Nuggets set did have quite a few hits on it as well though. Dirty Water fer instance.

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Which was a bigger hit than most of the parentheticals above, if I'm not mistaken.

no opinion, Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Amen.

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

well you sure shut me up. how could i have not known the standells were a household name

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 1 March 2004 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Tons of the songs on Nuggets were hits. "Psychotic Reaction." "You're Gonna Miss Me." "Talk Talk." "Lies." ""I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night." et al. Nuggets is way more pop than people give it credit for. "Liar Liar" "Night Time" and "Lies" are all NOTHING but pure pop perfection.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Monday, 1 March 2004 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Well the guitar-band sound was the default pop sound at that point - those bands weren't trying not to make pop music, something I'm not sure you could say of everyone on Dead Elvis' sets.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 1 March 2004 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

what was the actual criteria for the original Nuggets, if it wasn't restricted to non-hits?

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 1 March 2004 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Stuff Lenny Kaye remembered liking and feared would be forgotten, I think.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 1 March 2004 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

that's fair enough

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 1 March 2004 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Elvis Is Dead--if you actually made these CDs, please email me because I'd like to trade for them. thanks

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 1 March 2004 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

In fact, these are mixcds I've been creating for months. The nuggets idea i had yesterday, when i saw my cd-rs.

If doesn't have White Stripes or The Strokes because i didn't want hits in the cds. But some songs became hits anyway.

i have all these in mp3 and would love to share it in usernet - i just don't know how. But i have them in my folder in soulseek.

Elvis is Dead, Monday, 1 March 2004 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

whither Dirtbombs?

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Monday, 1 March 2004 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

(my only complaint, BTW -- well, maybe except for Jet. And the D4.)

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Monday, 1 March 2004 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Hella but no lightning bolt?

BICICLETA EMOCIONAL!!! (Jon Williams) (ex machina), Monday, 1 March 2004 02:16 (twenty-two years ago)

unfortunately I don't have access to soulseek. if you're actually reachable at that email I'll try you there

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 1 March 2004 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Elvis, hm, if you don't know how to use Usenet you might investigate it first, it can be something of a flame zone. But you can look at www.mp3-faq.org (some of the info there is outdated, but you'll get an idea of what it's about). If you use Windows, you'll need the programs XNews (for downloading) and Yenc PowerPost or Sharkpost (for posting). In the meantime--what's your slsk name?

Surface Noise--maybe you confused Nuggets w/Pebbles?

no opinion, Monday, 1 March 2004 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

no, i've never heard any of the pebbles LPs. if anything it's an assumption drawn from the fact that none of the 'hits' were hits in my homeland

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim, do a 90s Aussie Nuggets.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, was just a thought. Pebbles is Nuggets-era but strictly garage bands, I don't think they include any hits though I could be wrong.

no opinion, Monday, 1 March 2004 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim, do a 90s Aussie Nuggets.

hmmmok.. gimme a few days

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Elvis Is Dead--if you actually made these CDs, please email me because I'd like to trade for them. thanks

Elvis, only do it on the condition that Matos can't play them until 2034.

Nick H (Nick H), Monday, 1 March 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Sloan - Underwhelmed was, like, 1992.

twitchy, Monday, 1 March 2004 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

six years pass...

This is an interesting idea. Now that the decade is over we should flesh out the tracklisting a bit more.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Monday, 19 April 2010 04:38 (sixteen years ago)

Minus the boring folk IMO

billstevejim, Monday, 19 April 2010 04:57 (sixteen years ago)

hmm i like pretty much all of those songs.

my oh my how times change

from the unhip (electricsound), Monday, 19 April 2010 05:03 (sixteen years ago)

"Drugs Drugs Drugs" should be the first track.

Captain Ahab, Monday, 19 April 2010 05:05 (sixteen years ago)

Sic Alps

babbylon falling (Curt1s Stephens), Monday, 19 April 2010 05:06 (sixteen years ago)

The Black Angels

babbylon falling (Curt1s Stephens), Monday, 19 April 2010 05:11 (sixteen years ago)

Exploding Hearts “Modern Kicks”
Jay Reatard “I Know A Place”
Mclusky “To Hell With Good Intentions”
No Age “Teen Creeps”
C.S.S. "Patins"
And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead “Mistakes And Regrets”
At. The Drive In “Pattern Against User”
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists "The Ballad of the Sin Eater"
Japandroids "Wet Hair"

billstevejim, Monday, 19 April 2010 05:29 (sixteen years ago)

Call me nuts, but I think "Bandages" is a great choice on the 1st box.. Keeping in the spirit of the original Nuggets if it were my call I'd mostly include uptempo guitar rock, and not anything remotely resembling "Mad World" by Gary Jules.

billstevejim, Monday, 19 April 2010 05:37 (sixteen years ago)

five years pass...

i demand that someone make the above playlist on spotify
