Coming back from the (crap) N.E.R.D. show last night, the local classic rock station played Pearl Jam's "Alive," which is a live recording. How many other live songs have been released as singles, not included singles drawn from live albums?

(That should be "not including," not "not included")

Iron Maiden havedone this a few times.

Also, I'm pretty sure a lot of early rock'n'roll was "live in the studio" if that counts.

As far as I know, McCartney did it twice. Maybe I'm Amazed and Coming Up. Both live versions are superior to the their studio counterparts.
Yet the biggest one I can think of: CHEAP TRICK I Want You To Want Me.

Or were there never original studio versions of those Frampton Comes Alive hits?

Was "Kick Out the Jams" released as a single?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Saturday, 10 April 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Elton John had "Candle In The Wind" in like 1987 and that duet with George Michael a few years later, "Don't Let The Sun Go Down Me."

A lot of these were from live albums, like "I Want You to Want Me." "Wanted Dead or Alive" was a studio single, first, then a live single, later.

"Kick Out the Jams" was indeed a single. Peaked at something like #76 in Billboard.

...mygod, I'd forgotten that live "Too Much Too Young" single, only heard it once (or twice) here in Canada! Never heard The Specials on the radio before that; only recognized the song because they'd performed it on "Saturday Night Live" about that time.

The Who released "Summertime Blues" from Live At Leads as a single. True, the studio version wasn't available until over twenty years later, on the re-issed Odds and Sods CD, but still.
