Fun site to waste some time

Just discovered this:

http://www.musicplasma.com

which is (supposedly) a 'music visual search engine'. Imagine those "similar artists" links on AMG in space, like a solar system, where bands are linked to each other by similar style and era. It has its flaws, but it's fun to browse about. And it offers discography of each band, linked to Amazon to boot.

Ugh. The first one I typed in got the links so wrong that it may as well have just written gibberish. the interface is quite interesting but they gotta do something about the accuracy of those links if they want this to actually be worthwhile.

I mean, c'mon, Nomeansno is connected to only two other artists and those are Radiohead and Outkast? That's just WEIRD.

I've found some links that sorta crash the site engine, such as Múm... it looks like it still needs some extra work.

Do you know anything about it? Is it actually pulling this from another database (amazon's, maybe?) Because it also seems to be missing a few bands entirely. I don't mean to sound overly negative, because the concept is really quite cool and I'd love to see this become useful!

Nope, a guy from another forum mentioned it on a thread, and I thought it was pretty, though flawed. It's a nice concept indeed, but the webmaster should link himself to the AMG database instead of Amazon's (if that is the case)...

merzbow is also linked to outkast. this reminds me of degrees of separation ideas. maybe every artist in the universe in connected to outkast in a couple of steps? this is fun for this reason and not passable as a tool suited to enlightenment or research just yet. it also seems to associate things through likeness of name: 'dazzling killmen' gave me 'daz dillenger' and 'killswitch engage'. it does seem to be better for pop acts for which madonna seems to be the centre of the universe. given amazon's notorious reccomendations for [YOU] / click here if you are not.[YOU] system it seems to be that database or one similar this thing is using.
