earthy music! c/d s/d + definitions!!!

ok so a mention of arrested development on an episode of classic coronation street the other day got me thinking - this is the group that is always described as earthy! and rightly so - when the word earthy is said, they def.spring to mind. but the word earthy gets used in relation to them so often that perhaps people (inc. me) should look harder for more vivid descriptions!

on discussing this important point with my brother - i struggled to come up with a good definition of earthy (or a good description of a.dev without the word earthy but the conversation had become broader by that stage ;-)).

does earthy oft mean wholesome and, well, Dull music? who is earthy - and which of these earthy artsists are good/bad!!

I think the Arrested Development sense of "earthy" is a marketing term meaning to say "hippie" without some of the negative connotations of that word - with "earthy" you appeal to the hippies but don't alienate the anti-hippie contingent entirely

as for me, I yearn for the word "mineral" to gain more critical currency
