Are there any Giorgio Moroder DJ sets around?

I found a 16 minute set called Disco Circus 1983 Medley, and well it's amazing, perfectly mixed and really high tempo and ace.

Just wondering if there was any stuff I should search for?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That's not "Disco Circus" by Martin Disco is it? In which case a) It's fucking incredible b) It's not a mix, but a song that uses the structural elements of a mix, and c) There's a nice edit/remix by Francois Kevorkian.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm pretty sure mr. moroder has never dj'd in his life. indeed, it sounds like it must be 'disco circus' by martin circus.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

If your mix/song in which deep male voices go "de doom doom, doom doom; de de doom doom doom", or if that doesn't make sense male & female voices going "hey hey hey hey", or if that still doesn't make sense then just female voices going "aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh, ahhhhhhhhh hah hah hao". Otherwise I give up trying to transcribe wordless vocal pieces. But if you do hear that - then it's Martin Disco's "Disco Circus".

Help me out stirmonster.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus I feel so ignorant.

Thank you, I guess slsk isn't all good. I think it is that.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

"de doom doom, doom doom; de de doom doom doom", describes it perfectly.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Why would you feel ignorant? "Disco Circus" is hardly a well known song - and when I first heard it I thought it was a Moreder work due to the blatant "I Feel Love" bass line lift that appears every so often in the song. And the song is great as I've already mentioned - one of the very few tracks I've been asked to repeat when DJing (which given the track is around 15 minutes long is impressive).

Xpost - When you've heard the track maybe - but looking at it on screen it makes it sound gothic (deep male voices chanting "DOOM!").

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

in fact, here ya go de doom doom doom doom

stirmonster, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Where the hell did you pull that from?

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha! i'd just done an edit of it for my dj'ing use and had the loop to hand so.....

stirmonster, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Hah, I thought it was either a fluke google find, or that you're one of the quickest mp3 editers in the west.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

great! now i have the killer line to go on my cv - one of the quickest mp3 editers in the west thanks!

stirmonster, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

The first track is "The Chase" and then it goes into another track with a vocal which says "you gotta beat the clock, you gotta beat the clock".

Is it Martin Circus then? It also ends with "The Chase".

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, now I'm baffled. That doesn't sound like "Disco Circus" - but I can point out that the second track is "Beat The Clock" by Sparks - the album from which that song is from is produced by Moroder as well.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd look for your "Disco Circus 1983 Medley" to help out more, but slsk is down for me at the moment.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm mr_lamouche if you can't find it elsewhere when you eventually get on.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds like it must be a moroder megamix.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks, and I will download it when I get a chance.

What I also meant to add to my previous post was that I'm pretty sure stirmonster is right when saying that Moroder never DJed in his life. Going on the knowledge that the two known tracks are Moroder productions, I'd guess that if the track isn't by Martin Circus, it's a studio done medley of Moroder's productions and not a DJ set (unless we're both wrong and Moroder has a very healthy self-esteem).

If this isn't the Martin Disco song, then track it down as soon as possible - you'll love it.

Xpost - all this writing, and then you just go ahead and post that, sigh.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I guess it is likely to be a studio mix. I'll check out the other track too.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm downloading from you now - just check your transfers for jedmond, and go into downloads/disco. The original version is in the instrumental (not instrumental), and the kevorkian remix is the noted remixers section.

I have to ask that you not download anything else - I have a limited downloading account that has been severely hurt by me leaving the computer on all night last week - sorry.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

No problem, that's cool thanks!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

any chicory tip in there?

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Unless I'm horribly mistaken, Martin Circus were some French dudes, making the track all the more urgent and key for Ronan.

Ronan, as you're searching for Disco Circus, there's a shorter version (a Kevorkian mix) that clocks in at roughly 7:40. For what it's worth, I actually prefer it to the 15+ minute version.

partial x-post

Andy K (Andy K), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't seem to find it in your files Jed? No worries though I can trawl for it elsewhere, especially if you've had alot of uploads for your capacity.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Check this and this.

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Strange, I've just moved the tracks into the folder called soulseek - try looking for them there. - hopefully that'll work.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I finished downloading it Ronan, half way through listening to it I have to say it's fantastic.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

It seems so.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

so this is actually a mix done by peter slaghuis then?

tricky disco, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my happiest moments a few years ago at the WFMU record fair was looking through someone's euro psych crate and finding the Martin Circus LP with the orig 15ming Disco Circus on it for 6 bucks, I don't think he knew what he had. Seriously that song is one of THE all time classics, has been sampled and referenced as much as anything else, and is one of those great "mixes itself" records.
