Peter Andre

Correct answer.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil Collins?
I once saw a very funny music magazine article in which he was fuming and ranting about his outrage that the sheer quality of his music never seemed to be acknowledged by critics and the media at large.
I think that counts as 'not getting it'.

M Carty (mj_c), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Bush.

hmmm (hmmm), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom G. Warrior

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Nickelback (they don't rock as hard as they think they do)

Kiss (they're not as great as they think they are)

I suggest a definition of "just don't get it." Or that each post include (like the Nickelback/Kiss post) what exactly they don't get; otherwise, the thread reads like Bands/Artists Who I Don't Like.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

"I suggest a definition of 'just don't get it.'"

Seriously. What is it that the Libertines don't get?

danh, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Oasis!!!

also:
The Vines
Nick Carter
J.Lo
Chingy
Stereophonics

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

"I suggest a definition of 'just don't get it.'"

don't get it [dån'd gæd' id'] exp for rock bands who ... just don't fucking get it!

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Creed

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

...doesn't get that Heavy Metal isn't for hard-core Christians.

Doobie Keebler (Charles McCain), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Er....amen!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Since the early 90's, I'd say Van Halen have failed to "get it".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Def Leppard asked almost the same question in "Armageddon It." (Get it?)

chuck, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

ryan adams i concur, honestly mainly from that phone message, i was stupefied by his sentiments...
"of course you can't say anything about the music 'casue it's too fucking good"

duke why, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Hanoi Rocks, apparently.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Local H.

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread is so wrong. The Darkness, Local H, Tom G Warrior, Hanoi Rocks, Nick Carter, and Chingy all get it WAY more than, I dunno, Henry Rollins or Bjork or Wilco or Scott Herren or TV on the Radio or Glen Danzig or Lyle Lovett or Tom Waits or Radiohead or Slayer or Tupac Shakur or KRS-One are somebody like that. If that's not obvious, I just don't know what is!

chuck, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

tupac shakur got it alright!

*sorry*

kinski (kinski), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, I too used to believe Jet didn't get it, but the problem was more than *I* just didn't get it at the time. But now I'm starting to, I think. Metal Mike Saunders helped:

chuck, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

erm, chuck, check track 3 on that Hanoi Rocks link?

noodle vague (noodle vague), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Glen Danzig doesn't NEED to get it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Although if you're starting to get Jet I'd seek help.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Noodle Vague, I stand corrected. I had completely forgotten Hanoi Rocks's inability to get it (on one of their best albums, not less), and I apologize.

chuck, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

If there's any confusion about what the purpose of this thread is, M Carty's post about Phil Collins is the type of thing I meant by starting this thread. Most posters have "got" what I meant but to avoid making this a "bash bands you don't like" thread do as Rick Massimo suggested upthread and list how you think the band/artist(s) you mention "don't get it". Thank you, that is all.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah you might not like them but you can't really say the darkness don't get it.

duke lowe, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I can think of things Lyle Lovett doesn't get, but I can also think of things that he does, so I'm not sure what the "it" he doesn't get is

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

The Darkness get it. Justin Hawkins doesn't.

jds, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I had forgotten I had written that Hanoi Rocks review!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hold on...what exactly do Hanoi Rocks not get?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Lou Reed, these days.

cws (cws), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

That makes for a bemusing x-post.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 April 2004 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

They can't get it, Alex. It's just a thing they never get.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Thursday, 15 April 2004 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

.. and if you don't know what it is, then you JUST DON'T GET IT!

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 15 April 2004 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to know what IT is, but then they changed IT.

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 15 April 2004 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

so it goes...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 15 April 2004 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, nobody has yet mentioned Sting's whole 'anyone who criticises me or my music for any reason is a jealous nothing' schtick!
An outstanding example of 'not getting it'.

M Carty (mj_c), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

He had it, but didn't know. Then he didn't but thought he did.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think that's quite right.

I think he thought he had it but it turned out that actually it couldn't have been him that had it at all; and unfortunately he still hasn't realised that.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Depeche Mode not only got it but wanted more of it.

(Ha, that link is horrible, sorry).

David A. (Davant), Thursday, 15 April 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

One man's "don't get it" is another man's refreshing
"I don't give a fuck."

squirplis (Squirrel_Police), Thursday, 15 April 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Mike A OTM. Train? Come on, you fucking enlightened uplifting douchebag! Everytime I hear you sing, I picture your arms outstretched, smug smile stretched across your carefully crafted shaggy appearance, thanking "higher powers" for the wonder of the day. Your drum tracks make me want to take my life -- 90s limp white alt-y shuffle-y crud. AGHHHHH!

Clarke B. (Clarke B.), Thursday, 15 April 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Lou Reed, these days.
-- cws (cw...), April 15th, 2004.

Felonious Drunkz, Thursday, 15 April 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

also, the fact that he doesn't makes me wonder if he ever really did, which makes me wonder if i really do, since i heart the velvets.

Felonious Drunkz, Thursday, 15 April 2004 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

man, i saw lou barlow here in new zealand last year and he was excellent. one of the most intimate, riveting shows i've ever been witness to. it was also the 2nd to last ever time michael brassell (who played support with his band the hiss explosion) played in christchurch (the last being a gig i booked a couple months later, just a couple weeks before he died), so its not a show im likely to forget.

chris andrews (fraew), Thursday, 15 April 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Local H, obviously.

billstevejim, Friday, 16 April 2004 04:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Victoria Beckham

or it cud just be that I don't get her?
