Whats Your Favorite Song From A Cartoon or Childrens Program?

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

The theme from "Courageous Cat & Minute Mouse" (or, more specifically, that bass line) rocks my world.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"What's A Semi-Weirdo Supposed To Do?" sung by Gonzo on an episode of Muppet Babies

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely something by Iron Maiden. I mean, Eddie's sort of a cartoon character.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Hands down, "Happy Anniversary" from the Flintstones.

Happy Anniversay, Happy Anniversay, Happy Anniverary, Haaappy Anniversary.

jds, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The Ducktales theme, hands down.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I've always hated Sesame St. But for some reason i love "C is for Cookie" and "Rubber Duckie"

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

oh my god, maybe it was subconcious and I had already read it, but I was just going to type "Ducktales, hands down" as well. So there, Ducktales. No question.

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to not thank everyone who said "Ducktales." I did not need that melody revived in my head.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

The Beets - "Killer Tofu" and "I Need More Allowance" from Nickelodeon's Doug

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"Beaver Fever" from the Angry Beavers reminds me of the Electric Six

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't Forget the Muppet Babies Theme.

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anybody know/remember the show Generation O? I forget what channel it was on, but it was a cartoon about like a 12 year old girl who was the famous singer of a rock band of the same name (one of the other members was a kangaroo). Thier songs were pretty good.

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Ducktales (pause) woo-oo!
Muuuuppet Babies, bla blah bla blah blah blah

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

"Linus & Lucy" by a mile, except I guess that's not a "song" since it's instrumental.

In which case, the "Heatmiser" song from that stop motion animated Christmas special.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I Forgot About "Linus & Lucy" "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is one of my favorite albums.

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"Linus and Lucy" and "Ducktales" are pwning my nominations

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"A Lonely Jew on Christmas" from South Park is up there as well

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Happy He and Happy She are both as Happy As Can Be!
Not any other day could be a Happy Anniversary!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Sport Billy. come on, it rocked.

No, wait - Jamie & the Magic Torch.

"Jamie! Jamie! Jamie and his magic torch!"

"love makes the world go round" from powerpuff girls

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

or perhaps "i'm checkin' in" from the simpsons

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

*any of the Simpsons tracks ('Time to change the oil/Don't want to be an oily man', that version of Fame from That's Edutainment and so on and on and on and on)

*the weird fragment of Godzilla and Godzuki i can remember from a Wednesday afternoon somewhere in Childhood (does this even exist??)

*The Universe Song from Animaniacs (I had to ask my Mam who Mickey Rooney was...)

*the soundtrack to weird meta-pop culture breath of hallucinogen-rich fresh air, Read Or Die; a sort of Pizzicato Five/Arling & Cameron re-jig of thriller music of the 20th Century and a weird ballad at the end of the TV show…

I won’t go on even though I sort of want to…

[BTW: interestingly my Spellchecker believes in Godzilla but not Godzuki... or Rodan]

james porter (james porter), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"This House is Freakin' Sweet" or "That Guy" (Spoof of the That Girl Theme) from The Family Guy

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul in Santa Cruz has mentioned 2 of my favourite 3 already, but I'm going to mention this one:

They're three sad souls
Oh me, oh my,
No brains, no heart,
He's much too shy.
But never mind you three,
Here's the Wizard as you can see.
He'll fix that one, two, three
In that funny place called the world of Oz.
Oh the world of Oz is a funny, funny place
Where everyone has a funny, funny face.
All the streets are paved with gold,
And no one ever grows old.
In that funny land lives the Wizard of Oz.

jazz odysseus, Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm quite fond of the Teen Titans theme at the moment. Also, the Way Outs song from The Flintstones, "Sweet Victory" from Spongebob, and the Max Power theme song Homer sings on the Simpsons.

Ryan WS (fffv), Thursday, 15 April 2004 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Pretty much all of the music on The Adventures of Pete and Pete was great. Lots of Magnetic Fields and related projects. Drop Nineteens. Fat Tulips. That song that Iggy Pop sang at the school dance.

Ryan WS (fffv), Thursday, 15 April 2004 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Raymond Scott and Carl Stalling, represent!

Ramones in the Simpsons with 'Happy Birthday Burnsie'

The Family Guy does good musical numbers.

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 15 April 2004 03:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The song Lisa and Bleeding Gums sing in the episode of the Simpsons where Bleeding Gums dies. "When the jazz man's testifyin' / the faithless man believes"

By the way, when they renamed Ninja Turtles to Hero Turtles for the BBC did they re-record the whole song? I remember the title graphics looked like the word had been changed freehand in MSPaint.

gascoin, Thursday, 15 April 2004 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't believe no one has mentioned ren and stimpy yet

chris andrews (fraew), Thursday, 15 April 2004 04:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Josie and the Pussycats theme song (complete with the Shmedley laugh)rocks!

Vlad the Impaler, Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Marine Boy - esp. the instrumental version at the end.

Jez (Jez), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to mention Home Movies (on cartoon network). There's
usually 1 really great song per episode.
The music is so damn good, they should release a soundtrack,
it'd sell oodles.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Cowboy Bebop owns this thread. Dunno the names of any of the tunes, japanese cowboy jazz with harmonicas and suchlike. A good proportion of the soundtrack rocks, basically.

Also:

The Fink Brothers - "Mutants in Mega City One" is pretty solid, if you count comic books as cartoons...

Jacob (Jacob), Thursday, 15 April 2004 07:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm very fond of the Animaniacs theme tune, esp the 'We Have Pay-To-Play Contracts, We're Zany To the Max, There's Baloney In Our Slacks' couplet (triplet?!)
Also the time they sung it in French was classic too.

mzui, Thursday, 15 April 2004 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

SUGAR SUGAR BY THE ARCHIES IS THE GREATEST SONG EVER WRITTEN, REGARDLESS OF IT'S BEING IN A CARTOON.

Jingle-Jangle is pretty cool, too, tho.

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 15 April 2004 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

We are free and fairly sober, with so many toys to build
The machines are kinda tricky, probly someone will be killed
But we gladly work for nothing, which is good because we don't intend to pay
The elves are back to work today, hooray!
We have just a couple hours to make several billion gifts,
and the labour isn't easy, and you'll all work triple shifts
You can make the job go quicker if you turn up the controls to super speed
It's back to work on Xmas eve, hooray!
And though you're cold, and sore, and ugly,
Your pride will mask the pain
Let my happy smile warm your hearts
there's a toy lodged in my brain
We are getting awfuly tired, and we can't work any faster, and we're very very sorry,
Why you selfish little bastards, do you want the kids to think
that santas just a crummy empty handed jerk?
Then shut your yaps and back to work
Now its very nearly Xmas and we've done the best we could,
These toy soldiers are poorly painted, and they're made from inferior wood
I should give you all a beating but I really have to fly
If I weren't stuck here frozen I'd harpoon you in the eye
Now it's back into our tennaments to drown ourselves in rye
You did the best you could I guess and some of these gorillas are okay
The elves have rescued Xmas day, hooray!

Fry's opera in the last episode of Futurama.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Thursday, 15 April 2004 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

current fave is THE FAIRLY ODD PARENTS theme. "Timmy is an average kid that no one understands..." Hear it once and you're hooked. That ANIMANIACS theme is a classic. I'm sick-to-death of Spongebob but the power ballad he declaims in the "Band Geeks" episode is "better" than Styx.

lovebug starski, Thursday, 15 April 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

...yeah, "Sweet Victory" is the SBSP PB. The Jet Screamer episode of The Jetsons" lurks somewhere in my buried baby-boom memories. And who could forget Mick Jagstone & the Rolling Boulders?

lovebug starski, Thursday, 15 April 2004 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

'Happy happy joy joy' Ren & Stimpy

'This House Is Freakin' Sweet' most definitely seconded

'Monorail', 'Who Needs A Kwik-E-Mart', 'We Do', 'Baby on board..something something, Burt Ward', 'There was nothing in Al Capone's vault, but it wasn't Geraldo's fault' from the Simpsons

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 15 April 2004 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

oh and 'Deception' from Gem

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 15 April 2004 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

should probably mention 'Interstellar 5555' as well

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 15 April 2004 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Stop that pigeon!

second the ren & stimpy motion...LOG!

manuel (manuel), Thursday, 15 April 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

the "amendment to be" song from the simpsons ("there's a lot of flagburners who have got too much freedom/i wanna make it legal for policemen to beat 'em"). the "see my vest" song mr. burns sings about turning bart's greyhound puppies into a tuxedo.

"i need a jew" from the family guy.

the song the robot devil sings in futurama (mainly for having a great punchline at the end).

the m.c. pee pants song from "aqua teen hunger force."

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Thursday, 15 April 2004 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"eep op ork means I love you" by Jet Screamer (Jetsons)

Stone Cutters theme song from the Simpsons

cw28, Thursday, 15 April 2004 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Theme song from King of the Hill

Theme song from Great Space Coaster "step on board, get inside, going for a magic ride ..."

"Is you Is or Is You Ain't My Baby" -- Tom and Jerry

Theme song from Pee Wee's Playhouse. (Sung by Cindy Lauper)

More simpsons songs ...
Songs from Planet of the Apes -- The Musical
"He can talk ... He can talk ... I can siiiiiing!"

And who can forget "Dr. Zaius" sung to the tune of Falco's "Ammadeus"

cw28, Thursday, 15 April 2004 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

That hilariously sadistic square-dance number performed by Bugs Bunny and enacted by the two ZZ Top lookalikes in 1949's "Hillbilly Hare":

Grab a fence post, hold it tight,
Womp your partner with all your might.
Hit him in the shin, hit him in the head,
Hit him again, the critter ain't dead!

Whomp him low and whomp him high,
Stick your finger in his eye...

etc. Classic!

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 15 April 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

"the song the robot devil sings in futurama (mainly for having a great punchline at the end)."

The first time I saw that episode I honestly believed they were going to play "Devil Went Down To Georgia" by Primus.

I totally forgot about the Animaniacs. I loved them.

But my favorite song is the Riverbottom Nightmare Band theme song from Emmit Otter's Jug Band Christmas.

Balamory Karaoke

Oh, and the theme from Sweet Valley High.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

The closing theme to the late, lamented "Cartoon Planet" used to crack my ass up (Brak basically skatting/singing a bastardized rendition of the "Bevery Hillbillies" theme).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Barima (Barima), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

BTW, gascoin, they did re-record the theme tune with the 'Hero Turtles' corrections.

The Wuzzles, 'No Guts, No Glory' - Theme from Galaxy Rangers, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, MASK, Silverhawks, TaleSpin, Tiny Toon Adventures, Taz-Mania and the Transformers: the Movie s/t to thread!

Barima (Barima), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

the "Callioppe" advert

"One potato two potato hree potato four
When you watch Callioppe there's a whole new world to explore."

Unfortunately I can't remember the rest of it. I know the line "It's neat it's cool it's great" is in there somewhere...

Second favorite song from a cartoon: "PICTURE PAGES PICTURE PAGES TIME TO GET YOUR PICTURE PAGES TIME TO GET YOUR CRAYONS AND YOUR PENCILS"
Third favorite: "PINWHEEL PINWHEEL SPINNING AROUND..."

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i was thinking about MASK earlier, i can remember some of the lyrics -"Tracker's gonna lead the mission, and (can't remember who)'s got the deadly vision"

also, the Defenders Of The Earth theme which was surely by the same band.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

the Hermes song from "Futurama" about how bureaucracy is his biological imperative

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Thursday, 15 April 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I double the 'cowbwoy bebop'. Yoko Kanno writes songs for anime and vidja games in many different genres and I find most to be golden. The Big O theme by Rui Nagai (even tho complete queen rip-off). "kiseki no umi" from Record of Lodoss War (2nd series) is just beautiful. The chord changes give me a boner.

"Hillbilly Hare" gets my vote, too.

Now into the brook and fish for the trout,
Dive right in and splash about.
Trout, trout, pretty little trout,
One more splash and come right out.

When criminals in this world appear
And break the laws that they should fear
And frighten all who see or hear
The cry goes up both far and near
For Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder
Fighting all who rob or plunder

Underdog. Underdog!

When in this world the headlines read
Of those whose hearts are filled with greed
Who rob and steal from those who need
To right this wrong with blinding speed
Goes Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder
Fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog. Underdog!

Regarding Mask upthread: the posessor of the deadly vision was (and, for all I know, may very well still be) spectrum. I still have my boulder hill playset.

And whilst I agree that the raccoons theme owns all, I'm also a bit partial to Alvin's guitar solo over the end credits of Alvin and The Chipmunks (the 80s one with the spookily similar girl chipmunks).
