J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Thursday, 15 April 2004 04:06 (twenty-two years ago)

:-) Good to hear! He's supposed to be playing around here sometime in early May -- around here as in literally only about half a mile away or so, rah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 April 2004 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

My heart and I agree!

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 15 April 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread needs more answers

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

The Fall are playing in my tiny mid-missouri town and I am absolutely ecstatic over it. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard the news.
hopefully the turnout will be better than when Pere Ubu played here (and tore the place DOWN!) last year.

Sean Witzman (trip maker), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

A co-worker complained to me about the 'rap' I was playing yesterday when I was listening to 'Backdrop' by The Fall.

rw, Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

rw that makes me incredibly happy

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Thursday, 15 April 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

They are playing Detroit next Friday, I really want to go! Don't know if I will be able to, though.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 15 April 2004 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Was Mark E. Smith sober? Or at least capable of lasting the show? (unlike last time I saw The Fall)

stevo (stevo), Thursday, 15 April 2004 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

He seemed dead sober - drinking only water - don't know what that says about other chemicals of course. Since he's got these leg problems you can't judge whether he's walking straight. He kept doing odd little things like setting one of his two microphones inside the kickdrum apropos of nothing in particular. But he was just ON vocally, and the whole band was really tight & locked-in, like a dystopian P-Funk or something. Awesome.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Thursday, 15 April 2004 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

It occured to me: I've never heard the Fall.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 15 April 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

But Jel, they are a quintessentially English band. You know, like Iron Maiden.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 April 2004 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I was pissed when I was locked into seeing to a dodger game instead of be able to see the fall at the echo after the first ATPLA collapsed. the game was fun, but man.. WHAT IF?

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Thursday, 15 April 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I went in with low expectations, but was for the most part mesmerized.

Collardio Gelatinous (collardio), Friday, 16 April 2004 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I am extremely annoyed by the news that The Fall have cancelled their gig in my town tonight due to MES's "food poisoning." I will now probably never get a chance to see this band. I'm not a fanatic or anything, but I've been getting more and more excited as the date drew nearer, and this news is a real downer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "food poisoning" the oldest excuse in the book when wanting out of work for a day (or uh night)? Apparently, MES walked off stage at the show last night in St. Louis. I wonder if he is just scared of Missourians and our concealed weapons? What do you think? Excuse or legitimate?

Sean Witzman (trip maker), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Time for me to get off this crapper...

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Last week I bought a couple of cds at a local store here in Chicago and the clerk gave me two free tickets to the Fall show the next night. I guess they hadn't been selling, which was a surprise to me. We ended up wussing out/being old and tired and not going.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm thinking about approaching him before their gig here in San Diego and asking him to sign my Audioslave CD. How do you suppose he'll react?

Famous Athlete, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

How do you like hospital food?

noodle vague (noodle vague), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

He walked off stage in St. Louis? I really, really wanted to go but family showed up just as I was about to leave (as they're wont to do.) I'd feel a little better knowing that I didn't miss an mind-fuck-amazing performance by them.

Although I feel crappy because it is unlikely that I'll ever get a chance to see them (him?) now, and I was looking forward to seeing them at a small venue like Creepy Crawl (It's even smaller than Mojo's, Sean!)

stephen morris (stephen morris), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate the creepy crawl!

nick do you like chicago?????!!! we can meet up next month

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 29 April 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in town on Saturday night and was going to go to the show .. but there were 3 bands and the first was scheduled to start at 11:30. I wouldn't be surprised if turnout was low. I didn't care about it being late .. but the transporation seemed like it would have been too much work.. And I just saw them last Tuesday. Not as good as when I saw them last July.. but still, they're the Fall...

I must restate that Sparta FC is a killer.

And I still don't get the singing/reciting into 2 mics gimmick ...
