classic for Change of Heart, but what else?

three weeks pass...
he's one of the main figures behind the much maligned but also extremly influential genre called "Italo Disco". The "Peter Jacques Band" has clocked up quite a few classic songs, though PJ is not apparently responsible for the songwriting. worth checking out. see also

five years pass...

I just picked up the "Change of Heart" 12" (http://www.discogs.com/Change-Change-Of-Heart/master/82582) at a fleamarket for a euro, more or less on a whim -- nice graphics, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis production, why not? It's great stuff -- especially "A Lover's Holiday" on the B-side, really deep, sort of happysad R&B infused with strings and chorus, but with a really plucky feel to the rhythm section. Couldn't find any other references to Change's svengali (?) Jacques Petrus on ILM. But I figured the record was worth a mention, given the current threads on proto-house. Anyone else into this?

xpost Yes, sure, of course I'm into this! "Paradise" and especially the Luther-helmed "The Glow of Love" are two of the most luscious disco tracks extant. Janet Jackson/Jam/Lewis showed the latter the respect it deserved bu superbly interweaving a sample of it on "All For You" (and while you're at it, you might as well scarf up Luther's appropriately titled "Never Too Much" too). Be sure to plumb the Change albums for obscure gems like "On Top."

Then there's The B. B. & Q. Band's "On The Beat" which lives and dies with its high-res production and, right, happysad whale song hook.

High Fashion's "Feelin' Lucky Lately" is good high-res faux Chic.

And he apparently had a hand in Macho's (no bio on the Petrus website lol) menacing epic discofication of "I'm a Man."

And there's this which I've never heard:

I like how "Change of Heart" is basically a re-write of "Paradise" (Jam and Lewis ripping off Petrus [or maybe they were given too much credit?]) and then BB & Q Band's "Genie" swipes SOS Band (the other way around).

The Ritchie Family's "I'll Do My Best" is up there -- not too dissimilar from the High Fashion stuff.

Has anyone heard Silence's Goodtime Lady? Looks like a post-punk album.
