coco rammstein, Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

it's called "lust for life"

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Iggy Pop should slit their Aussie throats and drink ale from their hollowed-out skulls for so ham-fistedly raping "Lust for Life". Shun Jet (the song is "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?", by the way). Also, their drummer is the ugliest human being in the solar system.i

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

x-post, obv.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Agency Song"

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

those little letters at the end are really undermining your rants, Alex

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Whats wrong with ugly drummers alex? its a drummers purpose to be ugly! sitting there at the back, banging away. can't shun, its great song.makes me wanna dance.

coco rammstein, Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I know, it's really upsetting me

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

its great song.makes me wanna dance.

Then seek out the afore-mentioned definite article and touch not the unclean thing.d

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey wait a minute now, how many different names does this song have?

coco rammstein, Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't talk to me about grammar, definite articles ya big hypocrite! trying to hyphenate aforementioned, what is the world coming to?

coco rammstein, Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Then read my first post again for the song title, twerp! And raise your standards.t

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, thanks for that insult. Anyway, I asked how many different titles does the song have because other people besides o most gracious you suggested the title

coco rammstein, Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

ironing delicious etc

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

It's called "Are You Gonna Go My Way?"

coco rammstein, Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

(the song is "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?", by the way)

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a great song, this Jet one, but for the life of me I'll never be able to think if it without imagining Renton and Sick Boy dodging the cops.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

So anyone know when the song's gonna be re-released? Well, its being re-released in ireland so I doubt anyone knows when?

coco rammstein, Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

god it's like alex has tourette's with those characters.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I have tourette's

coco rammstein, Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Coco, why are you so concerned with it being re-released? It came out under a year ago, and is widely available (some might say irritatingly ubiquotous)g

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Those little letters are cracking me up.

HONOUR THE FIRE!!!!!!d

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex, unfortunately the song isn't quite so ubiquitous here in Ireland, it being Ireland and all. First heard the song about 2months ago.

coco rammstein, Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, but Coco, you still have access to the `Net...thus, you can still get ahold of it with relative ease.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah but Alex, I wouldn't exactly say 'relative ease'. Me+Internet/Computers=disaster. ghfhfdgdfg I'm even having trouble typindgdgsdfg.

coco rammstein, Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

This has got to be an set-up? A Jet conversation so late in the game.

Anyways, I'll indulge. I hear the obvious Iggy lift most prevelantly, but I also hear another lift of the Stones "Sympathy for the Devil" in the chorus. Sometimes I think it's about to head into the Who's "My Generation" too. Maybe it's just me though ... Thinking too much about pathetic song ...

Gregory T (tubesocks), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone explain to me why I dislike this song so intensely. I hardly ever dislike any song.

Sonny A. (Keiko), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe coz you've heard it too much, and its, dare I say it....too catchy?

coco rammstein, Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

catchy....like a case of the clap.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Much of the musical goodwill AC/DC brought over from Australia is fast being decimated by the twin atrocities of the Vines and Jet.

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 16 April 2004 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never heard Jet, but my wife just informed me that she is very fond of them. WHAT DO I DO?!?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 16 April 2004 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't ask us
Indeed, this is your decision
Very often spouses don't share musical taste
Our tastes matter only so much
Rather than judging her
Cherish her interest in new sounds
Even though their are better bands than Jet.

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 16 April 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

THERE

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 16 April 2004 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, if you put it that way.

(I mean, in a poem)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 16 April 2004 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

AC/DC's goodwill will never be decimated

mentalist (mentalist), Friday, 16 April 2004 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I really want someone to answer my question. Most of us hate it, so one of us should be able to explain why, surely.

It's a dumb pop song, and I like dumb pop songs, so why don't I like this? It's not so poorly done, just annoying

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 16 April 2004 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Because of this song, I have delayed buying my planned-for iPod. It's a small (and futile) gesture, but I'm a big fan of gestures of all kinds.

BanjoMania (Brilhante), Friday, 16 April 2004 03:38 (twenty-two years ago)

We hate it because it *blatantly* steals from a very famous, very beloved song, unapologetically.

Michael Patrick mpb (Michael Patrick Brady), Friday, 16 April 2004 03:45 (twenty-two years ago)

because of 1) fucking stupid Apple Computer motherfucking "think different" fuckheads. Hate that company. 2) Too derivative; not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself but this just crosses the line. 3) Lame unreconstructed "c'mere WOman" sentiment.

Really it's just so cloddish and unnuanced; it makes me appreciate what a great band we have had going in the White Stripes. If the Stripes are Nirvana these guys are Silverchair.

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 16 April 2004 03:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I might be among the minority on this one, but "Are You Gonna Be A Girl" sounds like heaven compared to "Cold Hard Bitch" or whatever it's called.

"If the Stripes are Nirvana these guys are Silverchair."
I thought it was already agreed upon that Jet is the Collective Soul of neo-garage. The Silverchair will be when a 15-year-old group starts getting heavy airplay.

billstevejim, Friday, 16 April 2004 03:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, unless you were referring to both bands being Australian. In which case, good call.

billstevejim, Friday, 16 April 2004 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Silverchair, Daniel Johns in particular, are doing great stuff. Van Dyke Parks who worked on the Chair's latest album is a big fan of Daniel's compositional abilities for one.

I like the Jet song, it's catchy, and I don't know why or how they should be apologetic. Should they start the song with a 5 second apology to all the artists they ripped off? (now there's an idea)

But yes it's derivative in a 'this is pop so who cares' way.

mentalist (mentalist), Friday, 16 April 2004 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

mentalist (mentalist), Friday, 16 April 2004 05:38 (twenty-two years ago)

overlooking daniel johns' pretension and grandiosity well in excess of his talent, his lyrics are abysmal and cringeworthy at best.

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 16 April 2004 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Grandiose? So what. Pretentious. Welcome to music. I'm not that into the Silverchair ouevre, just trying to suggest that the Nirvana in Payjamas comparisons are a bit outmoded, as they went beyond that a few albums ago.

As for lyrics, I wouldnae have a clue, I can't even recall them, but then I hardly know a line of Bob Dylan.

mentalist (mentalist), Friday, 16 April 2004 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)

grandiosity well in excess of his talent is what i was saying. and if you don't listen to the lyrics you're obviously not going to see why i find them objectionable, so why are you busting my balls/

Friday afternoon here, just whiling the way the time before I can leave. I'm not getting worked up. I don't even care for Silverchair's music that much, I just think he's gone beyond the junior Kurt comparisons.

JET LYRICS

"Rollover Dj"

"Got your Rhymes going round in my head
Got your supersonic beats mixing up my Keds
"So dance little DJ come on
"What's your name?

"I wanna move but I don't feel right
Cause you've been playing other peoples songs all night
"So tell what you're trying to say
What's your name?

Hey Rollover DJ
You're spinning away
On my time
Hey, who cares what you play
Say whatever you say, I don't mind
Hey, roll over DJ, if you don't mind

Well I know that you think you're the star
A pill poppin' jukebox is all that you are
So tell me it ain't that way
What's you're name?

Hey roll over DJ
You're spinning away
On my time
Hey, who cares what you play
Say whatever you say, cause I don't mind
Hey roll over DJ if you don't mind

[Bridge / Solo]
"Hey roll over DJ
"You're spinning away
On my time
Hey, who cares what you play
Say whatever you say, cause I don't mind
"Hey roll over DJ if you don't mind
Hey roll over DJ if you don't mind

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

the video is, yes, b/w 'footage' of the band *playing live* like the real, totally non-derivative musicians they are.

a taco of desperate times (haitch), Wednesday, 24 June 2009 01:17 (sixteen years ago)

"We've always been really into the Band," frontman Nic Cester says during a studio break in Los Angeles, where a string quartet is laying down arrangements for the follow-up to the group's hit 2003 debut, Get Born. Fueled by romantic thoughts of Big Pink, Jet rented a "log cabin" at Massachusetts' Long View Farm Studios. "It looked all cool on paper," Cester reminisces, "and then we got there, and it was fucking minus-ten! That's too fucking cold!" The Aussies packed their bags after about a week.

That was more than a year ago, in March 2005. Prior to that, the crew had tried another climate completely: hot, hot Barbados. "We just brought a couple of guitar amps and kept it pretty simple, pretty primitive," Cester says of their first round of songwriting in the Caribbean. But that stay also proved less than productive. "It was just a cool holiday," says Cester. Between Barbados and Massachusetts, a sophomore slump was threatening to take hold.
