half-Puerto Rican pride over a choice Just track

Al (sitcom), Friday, 16 April 2004 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

they cop that old school "Puerto Rico! oh!" chant (where is that originally from, anyway?), and in the radio edit "niggarican" is changed to just "Puerto Rican" so that's probably what the clean version's called.

it kinda sounds like "Friday Night" but I like it lots more.

I still can't believe a rapper would name himself after Manuel Noriega.

The Puerto Rico chant is from Frankie Cutlass....there's a little snippet of that song on Funkmaster Flex's first 60 minutes of funk official mixtape CD on Loud....It's very catchy! this song sounds cool...

yeah I thought it might be Frankie Cutlass but I wasn't sure if that was maybe referencing an even earlier track, thanks for the confirmation.

yeah it's credited to cutlass on the flex thing....I'm no great house/dance music historian though so it could be earlier...but I think I remember him being on a writing credit.

three weeks pass...
so it turns out this song has the EXACT SAME Just Blaze beat as a track from Nick Cannon's album, "Get Crunk Shorty" f/ Fatman Scoop and the Ying Yang Twins, which is also just now being released as a single. I mean, it was bad enough when Blaze gave similiar tracks to Rah Digga and Joe Budden at the same time, but this is the exact same beat. weird. they're both hot tracks, though.

If we were being kind we could say it's the dancehall influence.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 10 May 2004 03:12 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i almost said something about it just being a 'riddim' and whatnot. i'm wondering now if Blaze actually sold them the track or Nore and Peedi just went ahead and spit on it for mixtapes.
