Has anyone made "Mr Blue Sky" into a quality single?

ELO's "Mr. Blue Sky" is a great deal of fun, but its value as three-and-a-half-minute pop-song goes out the window when things go all fugure/harmony/prog/weird at the end (resulting in a five-minute beast). Has anyone done a remix of the song that wraps things up in a more conventional way, or are there any covers that make the song suitable for sandwiching between "Penny Lane" and "Salsbury Hill"?

I've heard The Delgados' version, which is ok, but still not quite radio-sweet enough for me...

*tuts and harumphs at the very idea*

i have to say it's the fugue/harmony/prog/weirdness of it all that makes the song for me. I always used to shout at the radio when the Radio 1 DJs appeared to cut it short back in the day. Which is a long winded and grumpy way of saying that an edit for radio was probably dome in '78 by the band or Jet Records. Quite where you might get hold of this, however, I've no clue. Have you rried e-mailing Dave Lee Travis? ;-)

"Quack Quack BOOPS" should totally have fitted into the outro somewhere.

I've not heard the Delgados version, Sean. Is that on one of their records or is it a live thing?

It's a b-side (from a Peel session?)

I'll pop it into your folder, Scott. Just delete it when it's done. :)

Oh, and I hear you, zebedee - I wouldn't want the full version of the track not to exist, but it's such a killer bouncing chorus, and I'd love to be able to hear the tune in a condensed, sugary, instant-gratification kind of way.

It already is a quality single (cough snort), but if you like the riff have I got a song for you
