The WB plans Kurt Cobain biopic

From Entertainment Weekly:

Many of the viewers of the WB's youth-oriented shows were probably in strollers when Kurt Cobain killed himself 10 years ago this month. Nonetheless, the Nirvana frontman's life story apparently smells like teen spirit to WB execs, who've greenlit a biopic about the grunge godfather. ''His story is perfect for our audience,'' said WB's VP in charge of made-for-TV movies, Tana Nugent Jamieson, to the Hollywood Reporter.

Scripter Robert Munic, who is adapting Charles Cross' 2001 book ''Heavier than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain,'' said the movie is ''not your traditional biopic,'' telling the Reporter that ''the storytelling will have a nonlinear style, flashing to different parts of his life out of chronological order.'' Still, Jamieson said, the film may have a Very Special Episode aspect to it, perhaps in a public-service message at the end of the movie warning viewers about the dangers of clinical depression. ''We can do this right without seeming preachy,'' she said.

The movie would air next season; no word yet on who might play Cobain, his bandmates, or wife Courtney Love. But really, who could play Love better than Love herself? Besides, given her recent complaints about her financial status, she probably could use the work.

Cellulose?

It would be kind of funny if they cast WB actors for the movie. Like Katie Holmes as Dave Grohl.

See, THIS is what they should have used for Adaptation, so Kurt Cobain could have come back from the dead and found Cross wittering on about Springsteen again and dragged him off to hell or something. Actually that's the plot of Zombie Nightmare, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 April 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)
