I just got a pre-release promo of Slow Wonder. Now, I've never been a religious person. but I imagine the feeling I get all over my body when I hear S.W. is similar to religious ecstasy.
fiestaandsiesta wondered if anyone might miss Neko. I doubt it. The music doesn't seem to cry out for her. The record is missing some of the abandon that drips from the N.P. stuff in favor of a more focused and stylised sound. I can see fans of Jason Falkner and Brndan Benson going nuts for this album... I know I do.
In the Matador blurb the guy says the album is too short. I disagree. At 34 minutes it's the perfect length. It never loses focus or sags. I think this one will stand the test of time.
Oh... and the Mission of Burma record. It's definitely M.o.B. (minus Martin Swope ) but there are a couple questionable spots... you know.... It seems like when musicians get to be middle aged the cencsor in their brain slips a little bit and they put a lyric or an idea in a song that woulg have made them cringe 20 years ago. It only happens a couple times... not like what's happened to Elton John or Phil Collins (using his work with Brand X and Eno as an example of his good work)
It's a good record over all. Still no signals Calls and Marches, but how could that be beaten?
