More important is that you learn how to spell and/or type and/or operate the "caps lock" key on your computer.

No, Stryper and Malmsteen LPs are worthless. Even if someone's willing to buy them off you at a price that rewards your investment, you should still refrain from such dealings on a moral basis -- otherwise, you artificially prop up a corrupt sector of the economy. You don't want to be like the IMF, do you?

Nels, Saturday, 17 April 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

FUCK YOU FAGGOT

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

depends on which albums, i think. but that's on the pricey side - stryper's only worthwhile stuff is like "soldiers under command." sounds like judas priest, praises jesus christ! after that they were all like "let's look like chicks and play like vixen for god!"

i never could get into malmsteen, man, 64th notes are way too short for my attention span.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't do it Jon, those LPs will bleed invisible, scentless poison into your fingertips and turn your skin crystal blue.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw like 5 NEARLY identical yet actually Melvins 7" for like $8 each today. And all these insane Kraftwerk bootlegs :(

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

"caps lock", it's on the left-hand side -- do you know right from left? "Right is the hand you write with, and left is the hand that's left", as the poet said...

Re: "FUCK YOU FAGGOT": sorry, I refuse to fornicate with individuals displaying such a lack of decorum. Thanks all the same.

K Records rocks! Woo-hoo! Baseball caps! Distortion!

Nels, Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

What store did you go to Jon?

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

You seem stupid "nels".

Broheems: The Bop Shop and the Record Exchange in Rochester, NY

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Bop Shop is a pretty decent store. I some cool old folk records there a couple years back. John Martyn, some Fahey things, stuff like that. If Record Exchange is the one i'm thinking of that's good too.

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i bought some...

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"Right is the hand you write with, and left is the hand that's left", as the poet said...

That is a lie!!!

Aja (aja), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I only seem stupid to you, "Lil'", because I disagree with you and you're unable to accept that -- however, I can spell, behave myself, and don't descend into homophobe insults worthy of a fifth-grader, so perception is a big part of the equation, apparently.

Rochester!!!!

Be sure to check out Enfenetee's show on Baltimore cable TV.

Aja: I'm not a poet, a guitarist, or a right-hander. I type with my flippers.

Nels, Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sort of a poet, guitarist and I type with my left hand, you could say

Aja (aja), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I play left handed

Aja (aja), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Bop Shop is fucking weird, they have like every Tzadik record ever except for any of the ones I'd be really interested in and nothing from LOAD ever! Carbon Records has a tiny little rack where they put stuff from other weird labels which has neat stuff sometimes, like a comp with NOXAGT on it.

Today I got:

Pengo - A Nervous Splendor
John Zorn - Cobra (the new one)
Mekons - Punk Rock (used)
Thurston Moore - Piece for Yvonne Rainer (with Yoshimi and Mark Ibold)

Almost bought:

some Einstürzende Neubauten LP
tons of cheap Stereolab crap
tons of not so cheap NWW crap

NELS, DO YOU KNOW WHEN I AM JOKING LOL. Also, "homophobic"

YOUR QUESTION IS REJECTED!

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

buy the Stryper, ditch the Yngwie unless he's with Alcatrazz in which case go for it

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

though I am presently so in love with vinyl that if it were me I'd probably just buy 'em both

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 17 April 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

There's like 4 different Yngwie records. I wish I could remember which ones, but I spent all day going through crates.

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Saturday, 17 April 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"Faggot" used as an insult isn't homphobic? Reject all you want, your behavior is boorish.

Have a guess at which band I'm a member of among the records that you bought/considered buying.

Nels, Saturday, 17 April 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

YOU'RE NEW HERE AREN'T YOU? GO READ THE THREADS WHERE DAVE MATTHEWS BAND FANS CALL US ALL FAGGOTS.

(I was acting stupid on purpose. And you spelled "homophobic" wrong above.)

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Saturday, 17 April 2004 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, do you think brand new VU reissues of that live at Mac's KC and White Light / White Heat are worth $9.99 each?

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Saturday, 17 April 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

White Light/White Heat-if you don't already have it
Max's KC-no, there are better VU live recordings

Tim Ellison, Saturday, 17 April 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

$9.99 is pretty good for a 2cd set, but that Max's show basically sucks. Definitely get this if you don't have it yet.

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 17 April 2004 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Re: "(I was acting stupid on purpose. And you spelled "homophobic" wrong above.) "

No. I didn't. I used a different word, which I spelled correctly. Perhaps a revaluation of "stupid on purpose" is in order.

Must go now; the drugs have worn off. Ciao, bella.

Nels, Saturday, 17 April 2004 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

"stryper's only worthwhile stuff is like 'soldiers under command.' sounds like judas priest, praises jesus christ! after that they were all like 'let's look like chicks and play like vixen for god!'"

I'm wondering if I might like the latter better, actually.

Tim Ellison, Saturday, 17 April 2004 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Broheems, this is $9.99 for vinyl.

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=homophobe
NO.

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Saturday, 17 April 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm wondering if I might like the latter better, actually.

if i wasn't clear i mean vixen circa "vixen" or "rev it up," not the thoroughly kick-ass songs they did on the "hardbodies" soundtrack - glam and new wave mutation! "computer madness!"

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Sunday, 18 April 2004 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

the other class i'm taking, precalculus, is just taxing my brain. we just started trigonometric functions and i *kinda* remember this stuff, but geez. sin, cosine, tangent, etc. they are all ratios. but ratios of what? lengths? angles? god. i guess it's kinda neat. maybe sometime i'll find some use out of it. last night i was proud of myself for having figured out this one problem involving linear speed of a wheel on a car travelling 65 mph on tires with a diameter of 2.5 feet. i had to convert kilometers to miles, etc. really, it was challenging. had it been 15 years ago, i would have given up. but i'm older now and actually *want* to learn.

frankE, Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, it was miles to feet via meters and kilometers. i used a calulator, though.

frankE, Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

BLUE CRYSTAL SKIN, JON.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

like if i said, here's an angle -- say it's 30 degrees. we're talking unit circles here (trigonometric) would you be able to figure out the sine? the cosine? until today, no way. but now i kinda can. i'd have to think a bit, but i could do it (i think).

frankE, Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i think To Hell With the Devil is okay. prob. not quite as good as Soldiers Under Command.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Sunday, 18 April 2004 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Stryper: no
Yngwie: yes

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i have trilogy by yngwie on cassette....i should pick up a best of on cd one of these days.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I might have to go back and grab at least one Yngwie rekkid...

Lil' Fancy Kpants (The K is Silent) (ex machina), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Get Rising Force.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

yngwie sucks ass, even whilst bringing the fucking fury.

stryper = k-lame

didn't they have any ratt?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

out of the cellar is awesome!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

That first Malmsteen album - "Rising Force" - has one of my favorite riffs of all time.
It's a real shame that there's not much else of interest on there, though I remember it being lots of fun to hear that insane shredding for the first time. Unfortunately he seems to have no sense of melody (or at least not one that at all works for me) nor any interest in exploring different scales - which is something that helps certain other hilarious 80s hardrock shredders like MacAlpine and Friedman become almost listenable.
