Hey folkses. Pls. recommend to me some good starting places for gamelan; i've got to do a proooject on it and I need to play some songs for the class.

try this. there is also a moer recent version with diferent tracks and a shoter kecak. and for popular apeal ther is a track on the akira suondtrack that is very gamelan-y.

I remember in high school I wanted to go see Gamelan Son of Lion, and my mother thought it was some sort of cult-related thing. She always was suspicious about the wrong things.

New book coming out looks like it could be good. (Though ABC-CLIO puts out are kind of mediocre as reference tools.)

Speaking of Gamelan Son of Lion, some (or all?) of their work is back in print as of this year. I had forgotten that both Philip Corner and Daniel Goode were members.
