Japanese Hardwave?

I've recently become kind of obsessed with the stuff played at this internet radio station: http://www.hardrave.jp:9000/listen.pls

I can't figure out where to go to buy this stuff though, so I've only got it on tape now.

Does anyone know of places to buy this stuff online or anything? Does anyone else like it? And if I like this, then what other stuff am I missing out on?

Just curious

well I mean, I've found *some* sites that sell this stuff, but I can't make heads or tails of the japanese & chinese characters. can't seem to find any in english

i took a nap in my wife's office this afternoon. just laid down on the carpet and closed my eyes. it was so quiet and nice. much better than my office. cleaner floors. i didn't think it was going to work, but then i started twitching and was like, yeah, this is so cool. i'll be asleep in no time. the next thing i knew it was 25 minutes later and i was totally refreshed.

actually maybe not.

How come I've never started a single thread on this whole site that's gotten a serious response? What's the deal with this place?

can you put it in words...decribe it? i'm on 56k here and i'm doing other stuff.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

oh... sorry... it's a lot of gabba-ish stuff I guess... probably nothing really super new stylistically, but there are a lot of sped-up vocal samples (in japanese) and ravey (I think) sounding synth lines, and sometimes samples of popular songs (like Queen's "We Will Rock You" and some Japanese stuff), and sometimes some spoken text samples, and the BPM is usually high, and there are a lot of distorted, overdriven kick drums, and occasionally it gets really epic, and other times it's just kind of ridiculous.

hardwave is such a better genre name than hardrave.

The Rebukes of Hazard (mjt), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i clicked on that link, and the first thing that came up is totally my new theme music. it had that long snare roll that fades in thing happening. is there a name for that?

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey. This stuff is really good.

adam (adam), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, I thought this said hardware.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I've got it streaming now and it sounds pretty good to me!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm such a sucker for cheeseball rave--and it only gets worse when the crazy chipmunk anime shit drops in. Someone on here has gotta know more about this.

adam (adam), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

This is crazy stuff. At the moment there's some kind of live set and they're playing a happy hardcore cover of Queen's We Will Rock You. Some of it reminds me of that mix record that DJ Pica Pica Pica from The Boredoms put out a couple of years back, but I guessing this is much more a club thing. Doesn't sound that remote from hard trance.

Jason J, Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Recorded live, but not via the mixing desk!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

And whatever song is being played now has an extended Samurai Jack rant from Aku as an introduction before the nosebleed riffs start. This is a good thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I will sell my soul to Pavement if someone can tell me where to buy / download this stuff.

don (don), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Brandon (or somebody), can you name some artists or track titles?

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey... I'm glad other people like this stuff as much as I do!

The whole artists/track names thing is kinda what I'm hoping to track down. When I play the station in iTunes some info comes up, sometimes and artist name, and often a track name, both of which I've been trying to write down when I put this to tape. The trouble is still buying the stuff though.

by the way this site: http://www.sharpnel.com/ is for the label (I think?) that releases much of this music. There's also a link to another streaming radio station there.

Brandon Mitchell (A.H.), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

that site has some complete catalogue info for a bunch of releases that play on the streaming radio station. now just to figure out where to buy 'em

Brandon Mitchell (A.H.), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

That site comes up as gobbeldygook for me; anyone able to post a list of artists?

don (don), Sunday, 18 April 2004 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever it is that's playing now sounds like Aqua remixed by Andrew Weatherall. Obv it's brilliant, yeah?

minolta (minolta), Sunday, 18 April 2004 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

There's some cover/version/whatever of The Masochist playing right now. And I'm ashamed to say that I actually like a version of "Killing Scum."

Xii (Xii), Sunday, 18 April 2004 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

This has all been pretty addictive, had it going for three hours straight since I got back from lunch.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 April 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

you can see (hear) why I need to tape this stuff

Brandon Mitchell (A.H.), Sunday, 18 April 2004 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Quite so.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 April 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm on dial-up.. help me..
