I'll put up the scores tomorrow.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Please excuse my ignorance, but Jolie Holland is a top-40 possibility? That awesome to hear. If that's the case, then the UK is so much more healthly diverse than the stupid Canadian charts.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i think i'm on for zero points this week. and pink at number 26 is a typo, rather than wishful thinking. it can stay as it is, though.

so...james fox is our eurovision entry, is he? how splendid..

James Fox made a name for himself through the BBC1 show Fame Academy. Born James Mullet on 6 April 1976, he started learning to play the piano at the age of seven, and these days also plays the guitar and drums.

As well as working as a session singer, he's entertained British troops in Bosnia and the Falklands, and has toured as support for Liberty X.

james mullet...fnar fnar fnar...

scott pl. (scott pl.), Monday, 19 April 2004 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Erm, since everyone else is heeding that Marillion advice, I'd like to change it to #6.

Oh, and Eamon for #1.

To everyone pleasantly surprised by "This Love" - do not bother with the album. None of the songs are like, or as good as TL. Boo.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 19 April 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Tell you what though...

The BBC website has one of Marillion 'asking the fans to buy three copies each'.

Now, as some of you might remember, John Otway did a similar thing re getting the fanbase to buy a single, to get another hit 24 years after the last one. One of the things they were quite careful about is playing to the BPI rules (which are published in a volume). One point being that it's OK to get the fanbase to buy the single, and even to buy each format. But getting the fans to buy more than one of each format constitutes hyping, and this could get the single banned off the chart. This banning has happened quite often before, and it was by staying within the margins that John Otway's campaign succeeeded.

... just saying...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoops

Eamon #1 for me.

flowersdie (flowersdie), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Midweeks seen, gates closed...

Singles chart predictably bereft of any real shocks, poss excepting Pink though whether anyone expected her to do anything is debatable.

But things are happening in the album chart! Sort of.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

80s retro fever hits the album charts!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)

ft. The Zutons, obviously.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

First new entry - Breed 77 get to #39. They're from Gibraltar.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

So if Sia, Black Devil or Jolie Holland fail to make an appearance in the top 40, then that's 10 points for me and Cis.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Indicators of slowness of week - we've already had Snow Patrol, The Darkness and Dido played in full. And in the number 1 contenders, D12.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Armand van Helden is #34. No points for anyone.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

GLC is #32.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Cis gets 10.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

ANd The Bees are #31, so there's 5 for Hobart.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Lasgo #24, no points for anyone.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Pink #21. 5 for Jellybean.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Marillion #7 - 10 for Alex, Jelly and Grout, 5 for Fishman, and 1 for me, Flowers and Cis.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Maroon 5 are #3. That's 20 points for me, 5 for Jelly, Ed, Flowers and Hobart, and 1 for Steve.
