It may be sad....It may be called gay....But i want to make a compilation CD under the theme of Summer!!!...So any suggestions?
Also, do many people here make their own compilations? Who do you give them to? Do you put much thought into it?

"See the Sky About to Rain" - Neil Young. It's perfect for the one rainy summer day that feels great after a week of sun, just watching the clouds roll in knowing things will cool for a few hours.

I bought the CD reissue of On the Beach and finally heard this song with pristine sound. It is so fucking goreous. That gentle organ sound gets me deep, deep down inside.

Just looking through my "summer" titled songs.
The Troggs - Summertime
Grandaddy - Summer Here Kids
You could end a tape with Luna's cover of Indian Summer...

AlienBoy (AlienBoy), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
1. "Summer's Cauldron/Grass" by XTC - C'mon, this goes without saying. The languid sonic equivalent of laying down on a newly mown lawn in the dizzying summer heat.

2. "Summer in the City" as covered by Eat - Pretty much anyone's rendition would do (Joe Jackson did a live one a year or so back that was pretty cool). Just a cool depiction of Summer in....er....the city. I prefer Eat just because they're cooler than the Lovin' Spoonful.

3. :"Too Hot" by the Specials - Not actually about temperature but about the social climate of late 70's Britain, methinks, but still a great song that made it onto every similarly-themed "summer compilation" of my youth, along with....

4. "Ninety-Six Degrees in the Shade" by Third World - Another no brainer. Something about reggae music forbids me to listen to it when the thermomenter dips below 60.

5. "There's a Riot in Tompkins Square" by the Undead - Released in the early 90's, this admittedly stupid song by Bobby Steele's Undead loosely depicts the squatter riots of the summer of....`89 and, to my mind, captured the mood of the East Village at the time.

6. "My Beach" by the Surf Punks - Speaking of stupid songs, this makes the Undead track sound like Philip Glass. An idiotic ode to surfer territorialism. Glorious.

7. "Fight the Power" by Public Enemy - I can't hear this without thinking of the sweaty vibe of Spike Lee's angry summer flick, "Do the Right Thing", which strikes a similar chord to "There's a Riot in Tompkins Square". Busy, sweaty, agoraphobic, while I prefer "Welcome to the Terrordome" and/or "Bring the Noise," this is a perfect angry summer anthem by PE.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 30 May 2004 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

The following don't necessarily deal lyrically with Summertime, but for some reason, I associate them with Summer.

8. "The Chad Who Loved Me" by Mansun
9. "Dirty Water" by the Standells
10. "I'm Straight" by the Modern Lovers
11. "Push" and "A Night Like This" by the Cure
12. "Get the Balance Right" by Depeche Mode
